I'd love a proper sleep study with all those specialists on the panel but even a plain old generic one will cost me about $1700 and as I understand it, you only get one shot. I read some of the reviews about the place and it was everything I feared. Plus I don't have the money so I doubt I'll be doing that any time soon. My regular MD has good intentions but at this point I am more versed on the subject than he is. He recommends an overnight lab study because it's all he knows to do at this point.

As for my charts... I don't mind posting them again but I if i'm being honest I stopped looking at them many months ago. They always look the same and never give me any real insight into whats actually happening. Plus sometimes I just get tired of ejecting the little card, taking to the office, loading it up, etc.. Is there maybe an easier way that I don't know about? I'm on a Mac if that matters. I know resmed has an app but I think it only shows overall AHI and large leaks etc..

Ummmm, that is not a "prescription"--I call it LAZINESS.
Cpap, apap, or any other---none of these machines have AI.

I was told the same exact thing by a sleep Dr at a prominent state university medical system. 'Then set the machine 5-20.' That's not 'practicing medicine'. Cpap is the quintessential medical treatment that embodies all of the failures of American Medicine. The bare minimum of 'service' and the maximization of billing codes. No follow up, little to no help with all of the paraprofessional aspects of treatment mainly related around masks and comfort. Then the patient is ignored and told 'their numbers are great'. Well I'm MORE than just my numbers!

When cpap works its miraculous. When it doesn't you are sorta on your own, because trying to diagnose the problem (or more like diagnose the flaws in the theory/system) takes too much time/costs too much money. No one wants to pay for it. And once you have the machine, all the relevant parties are already paid, provided you meet the minimum compliance standards.

You "can" set the machine at 5-20. (4-20 is not set at all.)
Neither is effective for the long run--but it's a place to start--

IMO, it is downright CRIMINAL to withhold the clinical manual from patients.

I just started this process about six weeks ago. The supplier sent me the machine and basic instructions, but I was mostly on my own. Starting out, I thought these things were a cure all, but I realized very soon that they are far from that, and I can certainly see how people fail; not surprising at all. I'm still not sure I'm going to get out of it what I would like, but I'm making some progress. For me, the chin strap is a must. The other thing that is a must is this forum.
