Why are some even discussing the relevance of the impact of (non-distilled) water on the internals of the machine?
The humidifier is
downstream to the internals of the machine because of the direction of air-flow. It is not an issue.

If ANY water or distilled water get into the Guts of your Resmed, your Resmed will be unhappy. Using water with minerals in the HH, only means the minerals will need to be cleaned out, better and more often. Jim

Stickies don't always have to be locked. I knew we would get junk ideas from people but figured might as well keep them all in this thread instead of cluttering up the forum with junk new topics about it. That way we could quickly and easily debunk junk ideas.

It still amazes me (you would think I would learn) how many people simply have no common sense about this water thing.
The brain simply doesn't engage.

We try to do the same, within reason.

Yep...I got one at WalMart a while back and it was 29.99 and had a 10.00 coupon stuck to it....and it was the 10 cup model and not the tiny 6 cup model.

Filtration can only remove "contaniments" for safe, pleasant drinking water.
It disturbs me that a filter claims to produce "distilled" water, as the definition of distillation
is to remove solids by precipitating them by phase change>> liquid to gas, and back to liquid.
This is impossible with a filter--but certain solids will adhere to carbon, etc filter media,
hopefully making it useful for use in a cpap, when it was not earlier.
I see no logic explaining how a filter can remove calcium.
If I can drink the water, it is OK to use in the cpap, as-is.

It actually *can* remove solids, or at least, ions, which is what builds up in the tank... it's a chemical process, ... de-ionized water.
Much like a water softener exchanges ions of one type for ions of another type. (calcium and magnesium for sodium). The first I heard about this was in a Keurig group, where people were talking about how running their tap water through a britta filter would drastically reduce the amount of crud buildup in their coffee makers.
Yes, it doesn't produce "distilled" water, so that is false advertising.

RO (reverse osmosis) filtered water works fine for me. If possible, find one without the "minerals added for taste." The very cheapest house brand bottled RO filtered water at Harris Teeter, a local grocery chain here in NC, sells it for about 15 cents a half liter bottle. Otherwise, you can clean the minerals out of your tank with a little white vinegar. I take a couple of half liter bottles with me on trips rather than lugging a gallon jug.
