I can wear a mask in public for the rest of my life, if necessary.
I am working on designs that make my face look slimmer.
I am learning to do more things remotely.
I am also learning that I do not miss crowds AT ALL.
But that is just me.
I could become a hermit, but I understand many others cannot.

The last time I went to a hermit convention, nobody showed up.
It can be many weeks after incubation before an ICU bed or a toe tag is needed.

I don't disagree. You might have missed this post above "The new stats show 24 percent of ICU beds statewide are available and a majority of the patients in the ICU right now are non-COVID-19 patients."
Our number of people that are testing positive just went up. They are not in the hospitals yet. Our hospitals are full with people that put off other issues and are now paying the price. I myself had a doctors appointment postponed by the pandemic. What would have been a simple re-check is now a visit to a cardiologist. Oh joy! My husband is also being sent to a cardiologist, I think our primary care doctor might be a little over enthusiastic handing out referrals or maybe she is just being overly cautious.
On the good news side I've got another job interview on Monday. Please send positive thoughts this way.

COVID-19 Research
So many different types of fascinating research are being conducted.
Here is something that is both new and 100 years old.
"A research team including Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University (Winship) radiation oncologists and medical intensivists (critical care physicians) has initiated a highly innovative trial to treat COVID-19 patients with low dose chest radiation therapy (LD-RT), with the goal of reducing the pulmonary inflammation that severely affects these patients and threatens their ability to breathe on their own.
...
The investigators were inspired by the historical use of low dose chest radiation to treat pneumonia 100 years ago, citing research from the early1900s that demonstrated improved survival as high as 90 percent in treating patients with pneumonia in the pre-antibiotic era. Khan and Hess say the research also shows that pneumonia patients got better within a few days of receiving low dose chest radiation."

The whole point of the lockdown was to slow the spread (flatten the curve) so that hospitals will not be overwhelmed.
That's not the only reason. The slower the spread, the more time is available to learn how to use existing methods to treat and to develop new products for treatment. I sure would rather have the infection two years from now as compared to having it tomorrow.
The medical profession has already learned a lot about how to treat patients and will continue learning. We might even have a highly effective and quick treatment in two years.

Present bed availability is irrelevant. Just wait.

Thank you! I wish more people understood this. I also hope that this pandemic reminds people of how important some human occupations are, as opposed to others: I think we have more than enough entertainers (especially of the "internet" kind), advertisers/data collectors, speculative financial brokers, merchants/traders, attorneys, law enforcement, military, etc. But we do not have enough (and/or their hands are tied) of resource developers (I include agriculture in the mix), manufacturers, scientists/educators, medical/healthcare workers, including mental health and social workers, and so on (in no particular order). It is all about balance and I don't think it is nearly balanced today. I hope this pandemic produces at least a small shift in thinking in the positive direction.

me, too. though i can't help but worry about the negative things that lay ahead. but i'm trying to stay positive. and having the black lives matter protests start yielding positive changes in law enforcement and elsewhere is, well, positive.
expect the best but prepare for the worst, i suppose.

particularly the part about "two years from now".
it's a big ask, i know. and i've seen you post that staying inside is pretty much driving you and your husband slightly crazy.
it's just something to endure so that the "new normal" isn't people dying from this stupid disease.

We shall see. They said we would see this huge wave at the end of March then they pushed it back to April, then they said oops well we stopped it, then they said it will happen if we open back up. May 15th we opened no spike two weeks later. Here we are in the middle of June and some are still insisting its coming. In the meantime those people on the beaches having fun are going to kill grandma but those rioting are being joined by some of our idiot political leaders.

I'm past caring. If the virus gets me, good. I have a DNR. The world has gone mad.

Nah. I think you're a caring person.
It could go either way. Protesters were outside with many masked, so it depends on where they go home to and what they do then that matters. It is the contact tracing and isolating that can keep R below 1:

Good news! We decided to do something about it. Early yesterday morning, we got up, ate a little cereal and milk, and a banana. At dawn, we drove to a nearby nature preserve. It's heavily wooded and has a long trail that runs along a lake. The trail is mostly through the heavy woods, but several times it dips down to nice views on the lake. We were early enough that we only saw a handful of people, mostly runners. You really feel like you are in the wilderness.
After our hike, we were hungry again. So, we drove to a local cafe that has an app for curbside ordering. We parked and ate bacon and egg sandwiches in the car.
We both feel so much better now and will start getting out more.

Thanks!
I have put
Paradise back into my usual set list. My parents were born in Eastern KY, not Western, but ideas on "progress of man" were much the same at both ends.
Speaking of progress, you may find this perspective reassuring, Granny:
