So, let's say I get Covid 19 but stay at home because there is no hospital space, you are saying I'm better off with the aircurve 10 VPAP than the other of the ResMed BiPAP machines as they are not so good for apnea even though they are better for ventilator type functions. And I also assume you're saying you can hook up oxygen to either the S9 or the auto curve 10 VPAP if need be and of course that would be better than nothing. My other option is stick with the S9 and just wait and see if there is something like an aircurve 11 VPAP that has more ventilator functions because of what ResMed is seeing now. The thing is it's time for me to get another machine so do I do it now and get the air curve 11 and then have to wait five years for the next machine that comes out.
I'm not interested in speculating about the slim chance that you'll need a ventilator and not be able to get into a hospital.

I'm telling you that a ST-A will give you poor treatment for sleep apnea.

There's no indication whatsoever of an "aircurve 11".
I get what you're saying about the ST*A and quite frankly I'm doing very well with my S9, except for when the P10 leaks air when on my side. If I get Covid will the S9 allow fire the attachment of oxygen? If not does the air curve 10vAuto Vpap do a better job than the S9 Auto Vpap if not I'll wait for the next step up, which might do everything better including ventilator functions.

The S9 already has the ability to bleed in added oxygen via the heated hose. It's been around for years.
It's got a place to attach an O2 line. You don't have to use it only with O2 though...it can be used by people who aren't needing added oxygen. Just keep the little plug in place.

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... o2-port-S9

Be careful if you order this hose....the AirSene/AirCurve models have a similar hose but it won't fit on the S9.

You can also add an inline oxygen adapter to any hose either between the hose and the machine, or between the hose and the mask, some full face masks have oxygen ports on them also.

Are patients with hypertension and diabetes mellitus at increased risk for COVID-19 infection?

Was copied by me from THE LANCET web site. Hope that will be good enough for jnk. If not, I am sure he will let me know. :D
Human pathogenic coronaviruses (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus [SARS-CoV] and SARS-CoV-2) bind to their target cells through angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), which is expressed by epithelial cells of the lung, intestine, kidney, and blood vessels.4 The expression of ACE2 is substantially increased in patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, who are treated with ACE inhibitors and angiotensin II type-I receptor blockers (ARBs).4 Hypertension is also treated with ACE inhibitors and ARBs, which results in an upregulation of ACE2.5 ACE2 can also be increased by thiazolidinediones and ibuprofen. These data suggest that ACE2 expression is increased in diabetes and treatment with ACE inhibitors and ARBs increases ACE2 expression. Consequently, the increased expression of ACE2 would facilitate infection with COVID-19. We therefore hypothesise that diabetes and hypertension treatment with ACE2-stimulating drugs increases the risk of developing severe and fatal COVID-19.
This may be one reason why people with diabetes and hypertension are dying.
I was thinking it was just having the diseases.

I might have been wrong.

So for those at you largely at home, what are you doing to occupy yourselves?

I've been trying to work online/on the phone here and there, but for whatever reason I don't have the energy most days. Perhaps anxiety and/or lack of good sleep.

I need to start to develop more positive habits. Instead I am reaching for extra cookies and vegging on the couch.

as i'm retired, pretty much them same thing i did before the pandemic. also, my wife and i are introverts so this isn't a big inconvenience for us.

reading is still number one. i'm out every day for my late morning walk. in the afternoon, we still have a nice spot to let our dog go off leash. in the evenings after dinner i'm still on my spin bike.

i try not to overdose on covid-19 stories.

oh when out for groceries wife and i wear the home made masks first born made for us.

pretty boring, i'm afraid.

Not to be a stickler, but not really from The Lancet, in the normal, usual sense of "from." Was merely a commentary containing a suggested hypothesis that was submitted to them and then printed by them without being peer-reviewed:
The publication in The Lancet journal, after all, was what that journal calls a commentary. Unlike scientific articles, these are not peer-reviewed. “Commentary means: These are our opinions,” says Krutika Kuppalli, an infectious disease physician in California and Emerging Leader in Biosecurity Fellow at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security. “It does not mean there is medical evidence. I don’t think there is any literature on this.”--https://www.wired.com/story/the-ibuprof ... 19-rumors/

Walks. I live next to the Paseo Trail so I've been walking since aqua fit is closed down. I also like paint nights. There are a lot of places doing virtual ones online, the waterfall is one I did from a you tube video.

This is an interesting article re: topic. the major reason for not using cpap bipap is the risk of infection to others. for those of us to have machines and even better yet oxygen machines, especially if we are older it looks like th elonger we can stay home the better.

to find the article google cpr.heart.org and covid-19-resources-for-cpr-training/oxygenation and read module 1

You are most definitely a "stickler". :D Just in denial.
You are also right. (sticklerly speaking) :? I attempted to clarify.

Please stickler that.

Interesting numbers from Arizona. Per capita our northern areas are getting hit much harder than down south where we are now hitting 80+ degrees.

Trump brought in the feds to help the Navajo nation. Meanwhile down in the valley we are already dropping far below projections and that is with most of the valley pretty much ignoring the stay at home orders.

There is much talk today about moving the mlb season here.

after i asked that, i realized i don't know how the native population here is fairing. suppose i should look it up.

i hope that baseball is very cautious in this regard. it's that rebound effect i'm concerned about now.

plus, who wants to play ball in 120 degree weather?
