Is there any reason why people need the SD card specifically from the DME company? Mine came with one, but SD cards are cheap and it seemed like any old one would work.
No.....despite what ResMed says about only using one of their SD card any old SD card will work.
I got one from WalMart when I lost the other one. No big deal. Don't get one of the really high dollar fancy HD cards though....too fancy and the software gets confused....at least that is what has been reported by a few people.

Cheap generic will work just fine.

No indication that the next model will be released anytime soon, I also can't help but think that during the COVID concern, now wouldn't be the optimal time to release a new model.
  • Will it even use an SD Card?
  • Will it even provide access to Data?
  • Will their be any changes to file structures, potentially creating incompatibilities with OSCAR?
And while we at it, let's not further confuse the ResMed model naming by referring to the next model, as the S11. ResMed stopped that naming convention with the S9. There is no S10, and the next model is likely not going to be called the S11.

," . . . let's not further confuse . . . "
What a relief for Resmed--they have been knocking themselves out trying to confuse US.

I would bet on this happening. Historically they have always changed the file structure so that even an update in their own ResScan software was needed to make new models compatible.
It's been this way since the S8 (length of time I have been around the cpap world) and I suspect since time began in the cpap world.
As new machines were unrolled with new data recording the software had to accommodate and show the new or different data.
OSCAR will need to be updated for sure. I would bet my last dollar on that happening.

Since there are parts of the world (and ResMed machines go all over the world) that don't have cellular service so I don't see how they could not provide machines with SD cards or slots or some way to get data off the machine but they might just do that.
Or they might have different models available for different parts of the world and the machines that go to North America might not have SD cards or slots...no one knows for sure what they will do until they do it. They keep that secret close to their vests.

My DME company said insurance would pay for supplies for a machine I bought myself or already owned, but only if they sent me a new SD card so they could get the 90 day compliance data from the old one.
I actually misplaced mine a long time ago and purchased a different SD card that has been working fine,

It may also be a time to be wary of buying used machines from Craigslist. You would not want a machine that was recently used my an infected person.

The 1GB SD card that came with my S9 finally went caput this morning. I could only find one card in my box of old SD cards that was not SDHC. It costs as much to buy some 1GB or 2GB cards as 32GB SDHC cards. Outrageous.

If the next-gen apap won't allow us to review our own data, we may as well be flying blind. :(

The ones I have heard that sometimes has a problem are the 64 GB fancy cards.
I haven't heard of problems with 32 GB SDHC cards causing problems.

Remember...we aren't considered the customers....the DMEs and doctors are and this whole MyAir and the MyWhatever for doctors thing was designed mainly so DMEs and doctors could easily check for compliance requirement satisfaction and review the data.
They threw in MyAir so patients would have something to help them keep motivated but that was never the main reason for it.
So there's always going to be data but might not be easily available for us...but we find a way around it. We always do.

I actually wouldn't have a problem with a craigslist machine (other than the face to face meeting that might be needed) coming from a COVID patient. It's fairly easy to kill...remember hand washing is sufficient. I might let it sit a little longer than usual without using it if I could because we don't know just how long it lives on inanimate objects. Normal wipe down with a disinfectant would kill any possible surface viruses...I would be creeped out probably over the thought of using a used mask though which I don't normally do anyway.
Technically it could probably be sterilized easy enough but most used masks are already long in the tooth.
Headgear and frame could easily be cleaned though. It's just the cushions I have always preferred as brand new....even long before this virus thing. I call it the yuck factor.

New filter, maybe a new water chamber and hose...and I would be okay with it with maybe some extra wiping down and letting the machine sit for a couple of weeks as an extra precaution.

Any risk would mainly be the face to face exchange if that is what someone is doing.

If one is exchanging cash, wear gloves and mask, pop $ into a ziplock until you can wash that dirty money.

When I was looking at machines over the past few weeks, I found lots of S10 autosets and even a few auto aircurves(?) in the $100-300 range! The hours were mostly in the 100-3000 range as well. I ended up deciding to get an S9 ASV with 3,000 hours for $150 on dotmed, but I thought those sounded like good deals if you only need the auto cpap! Of course, if you’ve already hit your deductible or better yet your yearly out of pocket max, having insurance pay for it is ideal!

No the SD card from a DME isn't better, we just don't like being ripped off, or others being ripped off. Jim

If a DME gets by STEALING Your SD card, maybe the next time he will sell you a new XPAP without it's blower motot or hose! (The Broken Window Theory) Jim
