If I go to sleep with puffy cheek the cpap machine keeps pushing air in and the pressure builds and builds till I wake up suffocating because the pressure is so high it won’t let me exhale. Lowering the pressure to what it was set at during the sleep study and changing the mask to what I used during the sleep study would work but the respiratory specialist doesn’t want to do that. The ent didn’t want to do the surgery and prescribed nasal steroids which caused sinus drainage and made me vomit as I expected it would. The bottom line is the doctors are educated and trained in a certain way and much like the people on this site they expect everyone is the same and one size fits all which is complete bullshit. One of the key rules of my EMT and CNA training was that there is no such thing as normal and my medical record is a perfect testament to that. I’ve had multiple doctors tell me that my brain isn’t normal but seems to be quite extraordinary. I just wanted to know what they were going to tell me so I can try it before they tell me so I can cut out an appointment and say been there done that doesn’t work because the respiratory specialists want to use the cpap machine and nothing else and the ENT don’t want to do surgery unless absolutely necessary.
Between government and insurance regulations there is a progression that must be followed before you can actually do what needs to be done.

One can open the lips while blocking airfllow through the mouth with tongue and teeth.
A grinning chimp comes to mind . . .
In such a case, with the Simplus FFM, the area on the cheeks inside the mask would have a pressure equal to the pressure in the mouth.
Then, there are the straps of the Simplus that cross right across the cheeks. It's a mystery to me how he is getting chipmunk cheeks. I bet that while sleeping, he doesn't have them.
Right. He notices it while awake, then assumes it is all the time.
Needs to just get the damn septoplasty.
All anyone can do is wait until non-emergency procedures can be done again.
Elective, my flipper!

Doctors are too busy these days to notice if you are resetting your machine, much less care.
Go to apneaboard and download the clinical manual for your machine.
Most of us here have done this--some have found that our doctors did it WRONG.
Like mine.

I'm confused. I thought you were breathing through your mouth? If so, the air should be leaving your mouth. In my case, when the pressure is too high and my mouth is open too much, my cheeks will flap in the wind, and that is what bothers me. But I don't have any problem with the air building up since my mouth is open.
Which mask are you using? Are you trying to breathe through your nose, or do you sleep with your mouth open? Either is fine, but it will help us with our advice.
Also, what pressure are you currently using, and what would you prefer to use? Have you downloaded the clinical manual for your machine yet? You can totally change it yourself. Then you can use the data from the machine to zero in on the best settings for you, both in terms of comfort and therapy.

Which mask are you using?
He's been asked to fill out his equipment profile, but he seems to be in the venting stage instead of the action stage.
He claims to be using a Simplus FFM.

I have nothing to contribute (which likely doesn’t matter if the OP has up and left), but I’m instead seeking clarification; did others understand the above to mean that
multiple doctors have told him that his brain “seems” extraordinary, or was “multiple doctors” the subject of only the first clause?

Do you remember the fifth episode for the eighth season of Seinfeld? The one where Elaine gets a peek at her medical folder and sees that the doctor has written at the top "problem patient".
That's what I understood this to mean.

I think they just have the pressure set too high, and for whatever reason they think it needs to be that high when I’ve Told them before they are suffocating me with air. The mask is a F&P Simplus Full Face Mask and I make it as tight as I was told to make it when I first got it.

Please read my comments in full before responding with a possible solution I already tried and doesn’t work.

I'm not sure whether the type of help he was seeking is available here, but sounds like our loss.
Yup, that Seinfeld episode reference is an excellent analogy (and likely complete with the same "doctor-shopping").

Yeah, his line sounds very familiar.
Too bad, but IMO, not "our" loss at all.

Don't worry about it. I've had "chipmunk cheeks" probably from the git-go.... with no problem.
