I live in Kirkland WA. When I had pneumonia last year I had my CPAP with me and it helped a lot. The only problem was I was over hydrated one night (IV drip) and I woke up with a tube full of water. That was scary. If you are hospitalized make sure your cpap machine is lower than your mattress so moisture drains back into the machine. Most hospitals give you a table which is too high. Put it on a chair or step stool of some kind where u can't step on it if you get up at night. Make sure the hose doesn't loop down because water collects there. I don't think CPAP would Protect you from catching anything but sure helped me breathe. At home and hospital I put a few drops of eucalyptus oil( therapeutic grade) on a cotton pad near the filter door any time I am congested. Doubt it kills corona virus though.' but it helped me breath.

Covid-19 - Extra Protection from CPAP?
So, why would I need to be protected from CPAP? And how in the world would COVID-19 protect me from it?
In my opinion, there is not yet enough information available for me to have any opinions on which factors may or may not be relevant to the spread or the effect(s) of the pathogen(s).
If preliminary reports are true that perfectly healthy medical personnel who are well-educated in the proper use of full PPE are dying, I would hesitate to speculate in any way about anything mundane possibly having any protective properties.
Hey, just me.

But . . . washing hands to a count higher than ten,
a lot of people would need to take off their shoes and socks.
I think we can name a few of them . . .

Fortunately I rarely wear shoes or socks.
And I am unaware of any proof of medical prophylactic efficacy when it comes to covering the feet to ward off COVID-19 anyway.

Knowledge about the spread and potential treatment of COVID-19 is rapidly evolving as scientists investigate the disease . . . There is still a lot to learn about how the virus spreads, and why some infected people have no symptoms at all—or experience only mild cold-like symptoms that resolve on their own. . . . "There is still much to learn about how this pathogen is transmitted between individuals," says Richard Martinello, MD, a Yale Medicine infectious diseases specialist and medical director of infection prevention at Yale New Haven Health. "Data is needed not only to better understand when those who become ill shed the virus, but also which body fluids contain the virus and how those may contaminate surfaces and even the air surrounding them."--

I am content with washing my hands and other things I use more often. If anything, all this virus talk made me examine my own habits and change them a bit for perhaps the better, without having to do anything too nutty.

Can't see how CPAP would help prevent contracting a virus unless your sleep partner has it. As for effectiveness of wearing a face mask when in public for prevention, I'm all for reducing the odds. I know germs CAN still get in around the edges, but were some blocked by the face mask? I am among those with already compromised lungs, so I am just looking to improve my odds. That's why I take a flu shot. Have no illusion it will eliminate any chance of getting the flu, but I won't be likely to get any of the ones addressed by the shot. One thing that has surprised me with all the discussion of wearing masks in public, I have not seen one report on trying to prevent the virus from entering through the eye area aside from not touching your eyes. Even health care workers I've seen on TV do not have any eye covering. Anyone know if that's a non-issue?

My feeling on face masks is that as one who cannot keep her hands away from her face and eyes (allergies and dry eye), I feel like the mask would help remind me not to touch! That reminder, coupled with the increased handwashing, could help reduce the likelihood of infection via touch through mucous membranes. Am I wearing a mask around? No. Will I eventually? Maybe.

As I understand, covid-19 can come with a lot of nasal congestion. I feel if I contracted covid-19, CPAP would really help with the congestion problems.
I had the same thought. Even though I use a FFM, I mostly breathe nasally due to training and the help of a soft neck collar.
When I have a cold, CPAP really helps with the congestion. I recover quickly from colds and the severity is low to mild. So, I think a case of covid-19 might be helped by CPAP.
This is important to me because I have been doing a lot of traveling including out of the country. Who knows what is on all the surfaces of those plane seats and restrooms?
Maybe I'll crank my humidifier up a little to help prevent contracting covid-19.
BTW, the disease is covid-19 (coronavirus 2019). The virus is SARS-CoV-2 (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2).

A name by any other name. if it could smells as sweet, all forms are bad. If we only could monetize a cure, as easy as we can design a problem.

the news has made me ultra aware of how many times i touch my face.
THAT seems to be a hard habit to break.

. . . tin foil hat.

It took y'all long enough (a little over a month?). I've been tracking this outbreak since 15 January, before it had a name.
I'm available for my old friends via PM ... very sad to see this forum get taken over by a handful of stupid trolls.

They say that humidification helps reduce vulnerability to upper respiratory infections. I got so used to sleeping without humidification when my first CPAP humidifier crapped out (known issue with PRS1's) that I never use humidification any more. I guess I better start.
