I would say that Cpap.com has already addressed the issue of those
who want to disinfect masks, hoses, and tanks with their Lumin device.

Having read the various Resmed releases carefully the issue would seem to me to be the impact of Ozone on foam components.
I.E. There is foam sound deadening inside of the CPAP machine and there is 'memory foam' on the Airtouch line of masks.

The Resmed care guide for Airtouch masks says not to expose them to direct sunlight. I can't imagine it's okay to expose something to high intensity UV if it's not okay to expose it to direct sunlight.

Tubs and hoses are made of pretty resilient materials...they'll withstand all sorts of cleaning agents that 'foam' will not.

I'm fairly new to all this - and purchased an ozone cleaner. But I use it to clean the tubing because that darn tubing is too hard to try to "wash" in soapy water.

So ozone is NOT good for tubing, either????

I wouldn't be using it on my tube. From what I have heard it prematurely can age silicone and cause it to yellow early and get brittle.
I know it does it to masks. All silicone will turn a bit yellow as it ages but using the ozone seems to accelerate things.

You don't really have to clean the hose all that much anyway. I never clean mine. It doesn't get dirty.
If you feel you just have to wash it...a quick soak in hot soapy water and rinse with hot water (not so hot your hands can't stand it) and let it air dry is all that is really needed....maybe once a month or so is more than frequent enough.
DMEs tell us more often because the more we screw with things the more we break things and they get to sell us new stuff and make more money.

Same thing with my water chamber...I wash it out maybe every 2 or 3 months when I think about it.
In 10 years I have had only 2 problems....dropped the darn thing taking it out to wash it and broke it and had to buy a new one.

I would never use one of those cleaning brushes on a heated hose because of fear of damaging the heater coils inside the heated hose.
Plus I have heard some people say the brush is too large for some of those slimline hoses which is what most of the heated hoses are.

Why would you feel the need to clean the tubing?
There's filtered air coming into the machine, passing over (presumably) distilled water before it gets to the hose.
What could possibly be in there that requires "cleaning"?
In the nearly 15 years of using XPAP machines, I've NEVER "cleaned" a hose. Still using the same three I've been using all along. Every few years I fill them up with hot water to check for leaks, but that's it. I would also NEVER think of hanging one up to dry it either. Any exposure to unfiltered room air would guarantee that impurities could enter it.

Most of the time with this therapy......."Less is More".

I don't use distilled water. Occasionally water stands in the hose (I don't use a heated hose) for hours when I've overdone it with humidification. So maybe every 8 to 12 weeks or so, I run the brush through the hose once with soapy water then rinse. (I use the same hose for years.) I don't clean my hose every week as some manufacturers suggest, and I certainly don't replace it every 6 months as some suggest. But I do have some cleaning rituals. Like vacuuming the underside of couch cushions. Yeah, I'm not sure why I do that, either. It sure impresses the heck out of my wife, though, when she catches me doing it.

Well, shucks darn. If this don't beat all. We have appt. Feb. 25 for new supplies. I was thinking of not getting new tubing (don't know if refusing will actually save us any dollars) because I feel overwhelmed by all these "extras" that seemed just fine to me.

I was just concerned with him feeling so bad already that I didn't want him to get something extra because I wasn't keeping his equipment clean enough.

You get to choose what supplies you get and you can tell them "no" at any time.
I am going to assume he is on Medicare and if that's the case....it's against the law for them to supply you with anything on an automatic basis. You have to tell them you want it and need it and just because they recommend it doesn't mean you have to follow their recommendations.

So yes...you can save money by simply not taking everything every time you have satisfied the allowance period.
I do recommend having a spare if at all possible of at least the hose, mask and water chamber but you don't have to get them all at once if the cost is a problem for you. You can space it out.

DMEs always seem to "recommend" that you need new stuff at exactly the time your insurance will pay for replacement stuff. Imagine that....

Here's the normal Medicare replacement allowance schedule. Just because it is allowed doesn't mean you just have to get it though.
