I came here looking to see if others had their lid latch break on their Soclean only to discover that ozone is bad for my CPAP. FML
Now you have scrap electronic parts for the kids to play with.
Maybe they will choose a well-paying career.
And avoid buying scam products.

Haha!
So is the conclusion that ozone does sanitize but is bad for foam and plastic so not suitable for CPAP machines?

My old F&P Icon CPAP wasn't well designed well as evidenced by the numerous units that stop turning on because of a $1 part that is difficult to replace. Not on a knock on CPAP tech but this particular product was poorly designed and most are sitting in a scrap heap today. Mine soldiering on with the fix though.

There a hundreds of formulas for different foam.
Many break down with exposure to ozone.
Some need NO help, like the budget gunk chosen by Respironics in the recalled models.
Cutting corners, with a machete!
Industrial concentrations of ozone are much too hazardous for home use,
so the amounts allowed are nearly useless, compared to plain old soap and water.
Still, the damage is cumulative, and destroys equipment, both electronic and organic.

No, SoClean does not sanitize. It also does not clean. Read this, especially point 2. from the microbiologist -------> https://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic.php? ... 7#p1279357

I would also question the "sanitize" part. Ozone is used for disinfection in some settings (hospitals or industrial for sterilization) but in MUCH higher quantities than these home ozone devices can even generate.
So while we can say that ozone can be used to sanitize in some very specific situations...that doesn't equal the home devices actually "sanitizing" anything...not to mention that sanitizing doesn't equal "cleaning".

Has anyone ever done petri dish experiments to prove that ozone home devices actually kill whatever bugs might be on a cpap machine? Swab the machine before and after ozone use???? Then grow those petri dishes in a lab and see what grows???
What I have seen as "proof" that the devices actually kill anything come from the device manufacturers and it is very general proof at that. They make a lot of assumptions they don't prove.
First wrong assumption is that everything on a cpap machine or mask is a bad guy...and even if it was...guess what happens the first time we touch the newly "sanitized" equipment.....we put those very same bugs right back onto the machine or mask and contaminate things again.

There is so much wrong with the ozone device promotion thing even before people realized that foam and ozone don't play nice with each other.

I can with good conscience assert that any consumer device producing ozone is
PURE HOGWASH.
The marketing is intended to separate the feeble-minded from their money.
Sorry, if you are offended, but you gotta smarten up!
It is nobody else's job to protect you from being swindled--just YOU!
We tried to help--the rest is up to you--if you paid attention.
Feel free to insult me, if it makes you feel better . . .
But it will not alter the TRUTH.

Any recommendations with what to do with the So Clean machine that has been sitting in my closet for over 6 months? Toss it? Wait to see if there is any class action suit??

Yup.

You might also want to start smoking on the sly and develop lung disease to help with your own suit.

Class action--bah, humbug; the system is expertly played so that
ONLY the lawyers get any loot available. Been there, done that.
Donate it to Goodwill--they will likely scrap it, using their hazmat certs.

Ghost town !

Post by Marko2019 » Sun Apr 10, 2022 3:00 am

Not sure what's going on at SoClean's plant in Peterborough NH - but their neighbors told me they let go almost the entire workforce.

Most of their stuff is cheap knock-offs from China anyway so probably no biggee.

Weird - huge building now with no cars in the parking lot. Looks and smells like the end to me....
A whole lot of investigation is ongoing before I spend a single dime.

Just moving the rest of their garbage offshore--where nobody tells their dirty secrets.
