Resmed says SoClean is bad

Post by prodigyplace » Thu Jan 30, 2020 10:13 am

I just received this email from our sponsor of changes to Resmed's warranty. Using SoClean can void your warranty.

https://www.resmed.com/us/dam/documents ... letter.pdf
ResMed user guides advise patients to periodically clean ResMed machines, components and masks with
mild detergent and warm water only. Some patients choose to use other means to clean and/or disinfect
their machines. With the increased use of ozone devices, ResMed has observed that prolonged and
repeated use of an ozone device may eventually cause internal damage to a ResMed machine, leading to
an increase in motor noise.
Warranty update: Effective for sales of ResMed machines on or after February 1, 2020, ResMed’s limited
warranty will exclude damage to ResMed machines caused by use of ozone devices. The limited warranty
on ResMed masks, with the exception of ResMed AirTouch™ products, will not be affected.

Yes. Someone posted the entire document a little while back.
https://www.resmed.com/us/dam/documents ... letter.pdf

And I just got a notice from cpap.com reflecting a change in their ResMed warranty coverage because of it.
It was sent via email.

Here's a copy of what I got last night I think it was. Just haven't had time to post it yet.

Dear CPAP.com family,

We wanted to share that ResMed has released a change in policy for CPAP Machine warranties as it pertains to use with ozone cleaners.

ResMed's Official Statement:
"Effective for sales of ResMed machines on or after February 1, 2020, ResMed's limited warranty will exclude damage to ResMed machines caused by the use of ozone devices. The limited warranty on ResMed masks, with the exception of ResMed AirTouch™ products, will not be affected."

You can read ResMed's full statement here.

ResMed will honor device refurbishment or replacement if your claim is submitted with ozone damage by April 30, 2020. Please note, this only applies to ResMed Air10 devices purchased prior to February 1, 2020 that are within their limited warranty period.

At CPAP.com, we take our job of improving your sleep health and keeping you safe seriously, which is why we only carry products we would recommend to our family. ResMed's warranty update further strengthens the decision we made years ago to not sell any products using ozone or "activated oxygen." For that reason, CPAP.com looked for a safer disinfecting option, enter the Lumin by 3B Medical.

The Lumin by 3B Medical uses UV light, a highly-effective method to disinfect, and ensures your safety by having a closing drawer, which will automatically shut off if opened. Additionally, it does not require coming in contact with the machine at all. Instead, it allows you to clean the things that matter, the mask, hose, and humidifier chamber. Helping your machine, mask, hose, and humidifier stay effective and in tip-top shape for longer.

Thank you for choosing to be part of our family.

Signature Johnny Goodman,
President & CEO

What's the appropriate waiting time after this announcement for Resmed to come out with their own xPAP cleaning device, fully approved by Resmed and which will, of course, not void the warranty?

The SoClean has been around at least the 10 years I have been on cpap.
I would imagine if ResMed wanted to get into the machine cleaning business they would already have jumped on that band wagon.

SoClean has really grown recently. I would bet Resmed is looking at those dollars and wanting them. It's a power marketing move worthy of Microsoft. It's how I'd do it. ;-)

You're dreaming! ResMed wouldn't want the headaches of the warranty repair expenses cutting into their profits.
In case you can't read........Ozone is BAD for the machines because it DAMAGES them!

they already recommend an appropriate cleaning device.

Soap and water.

Nobody recommends cleaning the xPAP.

I would say that Cpap.com has already addressed the issue of those
who want to disinfect masks, hoses, and tanks with their Lumin device.
UV light has been used for decades in hearing aid conditioners.
As with the Lumin, pre-cleaning is needed to remove the physical schmutz
before allowing the device to do its thing.
Artificial wind and sunlight can NOT magically remove earwax.
Ozone does not remove anything--except currency.

True, but it dries it out so it can more easily be removed.

I find it easier to remove BEFORE it hardens.

Lazily flexing the domes lets it flake off. Whatever works. Just avoid ozone. ;)

I use a dollar store toothbrush that I accidentally stepped on, breaking off most of the handle.
That way I know to never use the shortie brush in my mouth--EVER!
