In case you're not aware, you'll need an adapter. Spain has the same voltage and frequency as the UK. However, the wall socket configuration is different.

Except, you keep basing your assumption that when traveling, should your machine get lost or damaged, one quick call to the insurance and you'll have your replacement machine within the hour.

It just doesn't work that way.
My point is that if you take it as carry-on, you reduce the risk of it being last or mishandled. The risk is not zero, of course, but it's fairly low.
