Seems to me like a troll posting delete it before someone believes it
Yeah, I wish posts like that weren't just rubber stamp approved... I'm guessing Pugsy didn't approve that garbage.
It just causes people to have to spend time debunking the crap.

If I were a smoker, I would immediately try to duplicate the experiment. The experiment seems pretty easy to do!!
We should at least give credit to a member of the forum (1 &1/2 years of membership!), who has put himself (herself) out there on such a contentious issue, for doing this experiment and for trying to explain it to us on a first principle basis. It's his or her first post.
Ah... no... When the first post is utter garbage, no credit is due.

This post will probably step on a lot of professional toes, but it had to be said.
ROFL!

If I were a smoker...
You don't have to be a "smoker" to perform the test - go buy a pack or bum one from a buddy and let us know how your test goes.
There's another test running at the same time and It seems you may not be aware of it. It's a check for gullibility.
Good Luck!

Sorry as an ex smoker and someone who just lost their dad to lung cancer I’m gonna be the person. Please don’t smoke and please don’t put smoke purposely in your machine.
This is one of those times that a vape (preferably without nicotine, and certainly without any sort of oil) would be handy.

Unfortunately garbage isn’t listed in the terms of agreement prohibited list which is used to filter posts.
Education and debunking of poor ideas is still probably the best way to handle those kinds of thoughts.
Extra work I know.
true dat. not sure if the op will sit still for debunking. or even return.
but then, that's not the point. the point is to educate others who may be new and may actually swallow the garbe posted. which of course is your point.
so thanks for bringing that up.

He
practically slammed his hand on the table in my direction and in a tone as tough I had insulted his mother,
practically yelled "Air does NOT go back down the hose! It is POSITIVE PRESSURE!"
So he
practically slammed his fist, and
practically yelled.
How does one practically slam one's fist, and practically yell? Sounds more like you're projecting.
you funny!
and educated.

Ummm . . . EXHALATION PORTS!
Any idiot can feel the exhaust coming out of those little holes.
Well, ALMOST any idiot--I think we found an exception.

EPR can be a blessing, but it only makes EXHALING easier.
The OP is addressing a feeling of "suffocation", which can be helped by raising the bottom pressure.
Even at 4 cm, adequate air enters the system to prevent suffocation,
but OSA means we usually require additional pressure to SPLINT the airway open.
Apparently, even some providers are ignorant of that fact, and fail to set the pressures correctly.

Light a cigarette, take a puff, and exhale into theask with the machine running. Then watch the hose and water canister fill up with smoke. Then watch it STAY THERE!
Then inhale from the mask and watch it disappears. Take the mask off and exhale in front of a mirror, and see practically the full puff of smoke come out of your mouth.
Video tape your experiment, and post it"
You're the "
engineer", you should understand the concept of supporting your claims with evidence.
This has nothing to do with the OP but I can't get over your toilet avatar

Not all machines have EPR. some have other, often less effective exhalation relief.

TL;DR, how many people have suffocated on CPAP?
My guess is a whopping 0, but I'm open to new ideas...
