My nose bleeds in the winter if I don't use humidification. Not a pleasant thing to wake up to, and reason enough to keep using the humidifier. Comfort, that's what it's all about.

I went from CPAP (with humidification) to BIPAP (with humidification) to the Trilogy WITHOUT humidification. The air was so dry that I pretty much gagged through the night on it. Got a stand-alone humidifier to use with the Trilogy and have been comfortable ever since.

Everyone’s different, I never once had issue with dry mouth on my bipap or cpap previously to that. Never used humidifier except for when I was only first put on a machine and then found out you don’t need to use it

I would sure have a lot less headaches without the moderator responsibilities. There are many days where that would be a welcome relief.

Just to be clear everyone....when I lock threads it's because they have usually got sideways and off track and lost all educational value....and have become nothing but a cesspool of fighting and shit slinging. I am trying to break the cycle of shit slinging when I do it.

For Christmas can we all get the gift of a troll free forum. It really ruins the experience for everyone. Probably scares away the newbies who want help too.

So although Guinges is correct that the first factor is the not altered, it is the second factor which makes a humidifier so necessary for most people.

He may have been correct about the first factor, but it was a straw man.

Nobody makes claims that the CPAP fan dries out the air.

Him making that point to support his position that a humidifier isn't necessary was silly.

Hospitals seem to prefer NOT using humidification with cpap treatment.
I suspect the reason has more to do with convenience than comfort and efficacy.
As expensive as hospital care is, one would expect BETTER care!

All this madness aside, i live in a humid climate, south east texas and love my humidifier, I've tried it with out before and my mouth was very dry and nasty afterwards. Have been using with distilled water over two years now without issue, not getting sick or anything.

I did have bronchitis once but also had a case before ever being on cpap too so i dont think that was the culprit, since then haven't been sick in atleast 7 or 8 months, and nothing before that bout either....

Wash mask with hot water and dish soap every night and hose and water tray maybe once every two months or so, no problem.

I'm not buying into all the cpap sickness hype. I'm a happy CPAP'R and I'm sticking to it damn it!

In a properly operating CPAP process, there is not a greater flow of air passing through the airway than during normal breathing.
