To be fair, the Autoset for her is only marginally better than the Autoset. Most people will not use that third algorithm...so even if you are only eligible for the Autoset, don't think you are losing out in any major way. The Autoset is considered to be the gold standard by many...the For Her just adds one more option.
In the context of this thread, the AutoSet for Her is hands-down, vastly superior to the AutoSet.
  • In Ontario. one only qualifies for and gets a prescription for an auto-adjusting machine, if there is a medical need.
  • The requirements for an auto machine are pretty stringent and the overwhelming majority are prescribed CPAP
  • For some unknown reason, the AutoSet for Her qualifies as a CPAP device within the Ontario Assisted Device program.
Therefore the regular AutoSet is off the table for most, the ResMed choices are: AirSense 10 CPAP, AirSense 10 Elite, AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her.
I am in Ontario and was only given the option of an APAP. This...Autoset was the only option for me. I wouldn't want OP to feel down if he wasn't able to qualify for the For Her model.

Beats me why ResMed thinks “For Her” is smart marketing. All they do is signal “don’t buy this product” to men, which is particularly dumb given that more than half their potential customers are men. So endeth the rant.
Rant's aside, quite simply, it's because the 'for her' mode was developed, after quite a bit of research, for women.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4679543/

That some men like it too doesn't change that fact.
Thanks for the link to the study; I learned a lot from it. But the point still remains that the marketing strategy seems, well, sub-optimal. At least they didn't call it the "For Pre-menopausal Her"! (That was the population in the NIH study.)

I think ResMed was just wanting to get on the bandwagon for doing something special for women since we have sort of been the ugly step child since the the dawn of cpap. For many years women only had large male size head masks to choose from and it hasn't been all that long since smaller versions were released for women and even now sometimes the only real difference in something is the color of the headgear....big whoopie.

I will give them credit for going further than the other brands in attempting to rationalize that sometimes women's cpap needs are different. That's more than anyone else has ever done. We are still the ugly step child IMHO. Maybe not quite so ugly but still ugly.

ResMed is shooting themselves in the foot though with the marketing because there is absolutely no reason that some men might not actually benefit from that new special algorithm.

The macho men who simply refuse to get a machine marketed towards women...oh well. It's their own foot that they are shooting. :D

Is that special algorithm critical to cpap success....dunno but in any war we want all the ammo we have available so we stand the best chance of winning the war and that's what that extra algorithm is...different ammo that might be a deal breaker or maker.

Is that a guess, or do you have numbers from Resmed to back up that claim?

Yes, 3 vs 2 algorithms. 🤣🤣

Is it 33% better? For some people yes...but most? Probably not...

So, in other words, it's nothing but a guess on your part, that you're falsely presenting as fact.

Got it

I also don't see why other parts of the APAP mode for Her algorithm can't be implemented selective. For instance establishing a new minimum, should two apneas occur within a predetermined time frame.

I think that would be beneficial for everyone. Limiting pressure increases aster 12? Not so much.

There's no reason they couldn't make those changes, it's just programming.

Is that a guess, or has an engineer from Resmed weighed in on this claim?

No, it is not a guess.

Trolls, there's one under every bridge, isn't there?
