Yup yup, saw a couple other references to that just a bit ago.
Interestingly, Big Clive pointed his finger at that in September:

The CDC and media completely dropped the ball on this.
- The evidence didn't support that this ailment was [solely] e- cigarette related.
- The evidence did support that it was street-cartridge/THC cutting (non-water soluble) related and definitely NON-mainstream e-juice related.
- What turned out to be the actual cause was continuously downplayed, in favour of laying the blame on vaping.
- They even named the disease EVALI (E-cagarette Vaping Associated Lung Injury), further re-enforcing that vaping will continue to blamed for causing injury or death. Instead of actually saving lives as what is likely the most successful NRT with regard to success and harm reduction.
The CDC should be ashamed of themselves, as should anybody who is discouraging vaping as a means of quitting smoking.

Could be they knew one could not sue the blackmarket for big bucks, but one can sue a large company for a big payout.
Likely colored their thinking.
The trail almost always leads to money.

Oddly enough, I had already relabeled my leftover vitamin E caplets as "placebos".
