How about a day for whatever your special ideals are. Like how about a "I like chocolate day"...
October 28th (in the USA).

I'm pretty sure that there are tons of folks that love chocolate, or how about "Beach" day, then everyone could take off work, school or whatever to go to the beach,
August 30th

For the same reason that you celebrate Canada Day, or that we celebrate Independence Day in the U.S., or that those of Irish descent celebrate St. Patrick's Day, or those of German descent in the U.S. celebrate Von Steuben Day.
Both my husband and I are of German descent. What is Von Steuben Day ? Never heard of it.

Btw I know what lgbt is. What is the q on the end? :?:

Von Steuben Day is a holiday traditionally held on a weekend in mid-September (von Steuben was born September 17), celebrating the Prussian-born Baron Friedrich von Steuben, who arrived in the United States as a volunteer offering his services to General George Washington in the American Revolutionary War.

Queer. It's starting to turn into alphabet soup as various people want more and more unique labels to stick on themselves.

Here in the U.S., it is rarely referred to as Independence Day. Poeple around here just call it the 4th of July holiday, with very little other significance attached.

I know from my years in Canada that Canada Day ( & Dominion Day before that) are considered major holidays

Nope, my "Happy Canada Day" overrides any other day. """""HAPPY CANADA DAY"""""!!!!!
But I have a question... why does everyone have to have a parade to commemorate "their" day????? I am definitely not against anyone being LGBTQ, that is their choice, but I do disagree with having a "DAY" for it. How about a day for whatever your special ideals are. Like how about a "I like chocolate day"... I'm pretty sure that there are tons of folks that love chocolate, or how about "Beach" day, then everyone could take off work, school or whatever to go to the beach, or how about "Straight Day". Do you get my drift???? Do we need to celebrate everyone's way of life, I get it that times have changed and LGBTQ folks had to fight to be recognized and accepted by the rest of the world but why designate a day for it.???????

Now I am going to get flamed and be chastised for saying what I think...………. Hey, how about a "THINK DAY"

Proud to be a Canadian still alive and kicking on CANADA DAY 2019!!!!!

Cheers everyone
Nan
On "Think Day", few here would be marching, as far as Chocolate Day,we would need to make it Chocolate Week, and break it down into days. Day One, My Favorite, Hershey (If they move factories back to the U.S.A. Jim

I wish I was strong enough to Boycott Hershey, but I'm not! I have cut back..... No Flame from me! I do like Hot Fudge though.

Would it really have been so hard to just let those of us who are celebrating Pride be happy? You do know that there are Canadians who are celebrating Pride?

I'm proud to be self assured enough that I don't need to seek (social) validation in the form of telling everyone how special I think I am and then forcing all 7.5 billion people on the planet to accept it or risk being labeled as something that I know they're not.

People have different opinions, for time immemorial, and hopefully that continues, for diversity of thought is the real strength.

Besides, it's become a hijacked political tool of social control and condemnation, and once that happens, the original intent is gone.

I can think of nothing more divisive than labeling myself into one little group whilst telling people in other "tribes" that I mean more than them. It's a prelude to balkanization through the lens of identity politics and it leads to bad things in the end.

I feel very bad for this community that this day and this movement has been labeled "PRIDE DAY".

It's a very unfortunate choice of words. :(

Pride was the first sin of Lucifer. Pride is considered to be the worst of the seven deadly sins by Orthodox Scholars.

(7 deadly sins are : pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath and sloth)

There were so many other words and terms that could have been used to be less divisive. (And less DOOMING.) Like maybe "LOVE DAY" or just HAPPY or even GAY DAY?

I think taking back the word GAY would be nice. And it rhymes? (always a plus) Hey, Hey, Hey ... it's Gay Day ... lets play ~~~ right? :) I mean everything rhymes with gay! (marketing dream!)

...but, alas, *I* am only a friend of the community - not a member, or their marketing consultant. Which is sad. I'd like to be a member of an inclusive group? Maybe they can add an 'O' for Other (or Orthodox)? LGBTQ-O?

So I remain wishing for an inclusive "human day" so we could *ALL* be part of the celebration of NO LABELS.

Also, if *I* have a "self label", I am an Orthodox Christian. I have had to work with my Priest quite intensively to come to my fullest truth about my many friendships in the LGBTQ community. I am at peace loving my friends who identify as LGBTQ and maintaining my Orthodox heart/mind and soul. I now have no conflict within.

I don't celebrate "Pride Day" (or month) as I find the whole thing absolutely ridiculous and over-the-top. Sort of how I don't like to celebrate Christmas or St Patricks Day among other things. That said more power to people that enjoy Pride Day, Month, whatever.

I think the problem people have with it is how corporations, businesses, activists, government officials, etc try and hoist it upon the rest of us that don't want to participate/don't care about it. It's sort of like those crazy religious people that try shove pamphlets in your hands or try to stage a pseudo-street intervention for us poor sinners. Same thing... except Pride month is basically that to the power of 100. I don't care if they celebrate want to express themselves but just don't expect the rest of society to subjugate themselves for their beliefs. That said I'm happy if there happy. I just don't want to participate or be bombarded for 30 days non-stop about it.

I think it's pretty good that Pride gets a month. Sharks only get a week.
