Wouldn't it be hilarious if at "Dr." Breus' next lecture,
the entire front row suddenly donned rubber duck lips.
Flash mob--for the common good!

It seems to me that Breus's main focus is to maintain his sleep apnea revenue stream.
Can't have PT's slipping their leashes and managing their own therapy!
Think of the lost billings! *gasp*

I'm very curious what kind of shrink is involved in sleep apnea treatments....
What do you mean? I always call an electrician when I need help with a plumbing problem. Don't you?

Is it wrong that while I was behind enemy lines I somehow enjoyed being called a troll?

Remind me to ask my therapist about that next week. I hope I haven't crossed the line into the dark side. Again.
   JNK the menace.

People opting for cognitive behavioral therapy for help with sleep disorders likely would be sent to a psychologist for therapy.
Good point, that could very well be the case.

I got the impression he is still learning about apnea - he certainly did not impress me as an expert in any way.
Doesn't know squat about cpap, I'd say.

Please note my suggestion for a more precise title for this thread. 8)

I am encouraged by the number of cogent, informed replies to the article, the great bulk of which take the Not A Medical Doc to task. Popular Psychology has never been a scholarly publication, but it did used to have at least some minimal standards when it came to content. Nowadays it seems to have simply moved into the realm of advertising and mis-information.

Baaaaah.

I wish I had noticed he was a PhD before I posted my comments there. I was waaaaay too deferential to a non-physician. He's not one bit more qualified to weigh in on self-directed or physician assisted treatment than anyone here.
Multiple posts there are allowed. You can take another shot at Breus.

I'm just thinking of how many people might read his article and become afraid to take control of their own therapy. Criminal, IMO.
They apparently removed my comments, although I'm still receiving reply email notifications. Had you seen mine there?
I wasn't even personally offensive! Haha

Looks like Psych Today has removed quite a bit of the commentary, including some of jnk's replies.

Thanks for letting me know. I guess they're feeling a bit besieged. Perhaps they could find someone with whom to talk about their feelings, because Lord knows they can't be allowed to talk themselves through it.

I haven't read all the comments, but who is "David"? Does he say? Is he a sleep technician? Is he a relative or associate of Breus? Has he ever used a CPAP?

No way to tell who he is - for all that he questions everyone else’s credentials, he has offered none of his own. However, he seems to feel an obligation to belittle or undermine anyone not agreeing with his point of view. Unfortunately, that has become the standard method of dealing with debates or discussions these days.

To be fair, he supports the original author’s position, which has resulted in a pretty much non stop barrage from all of us, so it is understandable that he is fighting back.

IMHO, David comes across as argumentative and condescending, so I don’t exactly feel sorry for him 😁

As best I can tell, the dude demanding real identities and credentials has not supplied his identity or credentials.

Sounds like a 13-yr-old goofball. Hey, it's the Internet, right?

I choose not to beard the beard. The info is there.

No such thing as bad publicity. The celebrity blogger's post and little Davie's remarks will most likely serve as free advertising for cpaptalk, SH, and OSCAR. More people will want to take control of their therapy now that Oz-2 and Goofball have made it sound so naughty.
