My installation went smoothly, as did migration of SH data. I recommend reading the guide before starting, even if you’re fairly savvy.
I’m so grateful to the original developer of SH and to everyone who has worked to bring us Oscar. This kind of selfless service to others is proof, if proof is needed, that good people abound on this Earth.
Well said. Went smoothly for me also.

I really saw no compelling reason to use SH 1.1.0, and so far I see no compelling reason to switch to OSCAR. I like the large easy to read text in the daily stats, aside from that... seems like a handful of new problems showed up in SH 1.1.0 and got transferred to OSCAR and aren't fixed yet.
Yo be fair, there were major backend changes for SH 1.1.0, removing the obsolete graphics library dependencies. That is what enabled development to restart.
A very big effort I'm sure. Thanks for letting us know. And honestly, hope it doesn't sound like I'm complaining.
Little frustrated that I don't know where to go to report the little issues I'm seeing. Probably not necessary to report- if I'm noticing them, they're very basic an I'm sure the devs are aware.

At this time there is no urgent reason to use OSCAR if you don't really want to unless you happen to be using a machine that Sleepyhead doesn't play nice with and OSCAR does play nice with...so a no brainer there.
Some of you folks just like to play with new stuff....that's fine too.
Eventually though as new model machines get released from the manufacturers there is a strong possibility that SH won't work with new models. If Mark doesn't update SH then when the new models get released people will need to either get OSCAR (assuming it will be updated) or the manufacturers software if their new machines aren't compatible with SleepyHead.
We don't know if/when new models will be released and we don't know if any data stored will be stored in a manner that will require different/upgraded software to view that data. So a lot of unknowns.
So you have 2 choices. Neither is a particularly life or death critical decision to make.
1....get OSCAR up and running now and be familiar with it..use it or not use it as you wish.
2....wait until you maybe get a new machine and you are forced to get something else because your new machine is no longer compatible with what you are using.

Easy install, migration(from SH 1.1.0-testing2), and first use.
SH 1.1.0 was beginning to hang on import, so far, Oscar has not.

Nicely stated Pugsy,
I do believe that over time OSCAR will become more prevalent, simply because the intent is to fix the issues in OSCAR, most of which are also in SleepyHead, and add enhancements and new devices as we can.
I maintain this is a Community project, and I assume everyone that reads this here is an Apnea Community member. There is a thread here called "OSCAR Suggestions". Enter issues or suggestions there and I guarantee they will be looked at. Implemented, the dev team will evaluate and select what to implement, and some concepts take much longer than others.

Thank you bonjour.
I'll get over there and post my issues as time permits.

If it is indeed an Apnea Community project separate from ApneaBoard, it should be hosted open and neutrally, not hiding in private on ApneaBoard.
You guys finally did a valid fork like I suggested before the big blowup. Until you quit hiding on ApneaBoard, it is strictly an ApneaBoard project.

For God's sake, Bruce, just STOP. Don't bring over your vitriol into this thread too!
OSCAR is indeed a multi-forum project and several people from cpaptalk and Apnea Board have DONE THE WORK to move the software forward... YOU? You're just sitting on the sidelines, doing NOTHING but bitching about the people who have done (and continue to do) the
actual work.
There is
no such thing as a completely "neutral" location for OSCAR.
Someone has to provide the resources, and since you didn't step up to the plate, others have. If another new OSCAR website were created, you'd bitch about that also, claiming that the person who registered and hosted the site isn't being "neutral" and that they only want to "control" things.
Please keep this thread on-topic, and don't use it as a platform for your constant bitching about where the stupid files are hosted, where the dev forum is located or other nonsense. You are COMPLETELY FREE to create
your own fork, your own dev forum, use your own resources to start your own SH fork if you so desire. So what the heck does it matter WHERE it's located as long as the work is getting done?
Answer: It matters not one bit, unless you're a whiny, do-nothing, complainer who loves to take pot-shots as those who actually DO THE WORK.
Just STOP, Bruce.. PLEASE. If you want to consider OSCAR to be "an Apnea Board project", then so be it. Stating a falsehood again and again does
not make it so... No amount of posting is going to change the mind of someone who's got their eyes shut to reality, so please open your eyes.
OSCAR has launched and it's a VERY GOOD THING indeed. Stop whining about the methods used, where it's hosted or who's doing the work and just be thankful that the people on the OSCAR Team and the beta-testers have put in the work to help so many people around the world and to move sleep apnea patients into the future with a software package that is adaptive to the changing world of CPAP.

2. Major Uh Oh for me. I work graveyard shift, and slept today from around 7:00am to 4pm. In Sleepyhead, I am able to switch the day rollover from noon to a time that's good for me. Unfortunately in Oscar, this has been disabled. Hopefully in the future, it will be re-enabled.
This change also showed up in SH 1.1.0

I remember installing SH 1.1.0 and finding something that I didn't like, and uninstalling. Maybe this was it. Thanks for pointing this out.

Reasonable work-around. Offset your machine clock so it will not rollover.

. . . Please keep this thread on-topic . . .
Um, I'm not sure that's a
thing here.
I personally don't understand all the politics and technology of this sort of thing. But if you are helping to support availability of this kind of software, thanks to you for that.
Hosting-location may be more of a gesture sort of a thing than a reality/practicality thing. But regardless of what you think of the source of the suggestion given, it may still have some merit when one considers the optics/appearance, strictly from a PR point of view. (Meaning, in this case, public relations, not . . . well . . . you know.) None of my business. But it is always easy for any of us to miss a meaningful message when we aren't enthralled with the messenger or the messenger's word choice and when there is, uh, "history."
Perhaps the suggestion could have been phrased, "Have you fine gentlemen and ladies considered changing the location of the hosting, as far as the perceived 'branding' of the project?"

Understood, Jeff.
The problem is that "certain" people will always find fault, no matter
who supports the project, no matter
where it's hosted, no matter
who does the dev work and no matter
how much of a need it's filling. Our society today is really too focused upon appearance rather than reality, I think. That's one of the reasons why I tend to agree with palerider - I'd personally rather someone tell the truth in a way that is somewhat blunt or even offensive, over someone telling a lie in a "nice tone". I'm probably more like palerider than most people think. Some on AB disagree with that, but hey, that's what I personally think.
It's a waste of time to try and satisfy some people's ideas of proper "appearance", since they always seem to justify their own self-worth by how much they denigrate the work of others. Sad, but true.
Sorry for the diversion, but I felt I had to respond to the nonsense by you-know-who.
In any case, OSCAR is being downloaded by hundreds & hundreds of people already and I feel the launch was pretty successful. For those who don't know, one small issue was solved, and the current version of OSCAR is now v.1.0.1 (as of 4/26/19).

I hear you 5 x 5.
But my angle was more making sure OSCAR has its own standalone brand, in a sense, and very clearly so, in order to allow it to take off in the press on its own merit in order to further its reach internationally. Journalists aren't always very bright in figuring out what something is when it is attached to an already established "brand." Hosting can be a big part of that perception for the media. That's all I was getting at. Not so much pleasing haters.
Only an opinion. I have every certainty you know what you are doing.
