Folks... think about this.

I've not been a big fan of Apneaboard, ever since I got banned for making a joke about how strict their moderation is, even though I've continued sending people over there, because of two things...

[snip]

That said... If I'm *DEFENDING* "apneaboard" in this... it oughta make you think.
I picked up on that right away. To me Mark was, and still is, being irrational and exceedingly emotional about SleepyHead.
  • He believes he owns a "borrowed" clipart because he used it with SleepyHead.
  • He doesn't understand that Open Source can and often is forked.
  • While often complaining that his contribution has not been respected, his actions demonstrate a complete lack or respect for the contributions of others to the project.
  • He hasn't Trademarked SleepyHead, but is acting like he has. And no, he doesn't have to register the Mark only has to apply the unregistered TradeMark Symbol against it.
  • He contends that forks cannot have the same look-alike / feel-alike. I mean really, wasn't this resolved in the 80's with Apple v. Microsoft and Lotus v. Borland.
  • Almost every post by those close to him (and now considered his traitors), expressed gratitude and flattery that was completely dismissed by him.

Specific clipart that is legally modified for use for a specific application is considered by some to be about as protected as anything else is on this planet.
He knows what a fork is.
Respect is subjective, and perceptions may have a basis that may come to lead to misunderstandings on a grand scale.
He knows what a trademark is.
Look-alike feel-alike can be a respect issue among tech partnerships, especially informal ones.
People who are hurting, for whatever reason, can be quick to lash out, especially when respect has come to be seen as an issue and when outside pressures start to pile up.

Would everyone in this room who has never been irrational or emotional please raise your hand.

The pressure of thousands of PAP users focusing their life-and-death hopes and dreams on one man with time constraints in an ever-changing technology landscape can easily make someone feel the weight of the world upon his shoulders, even when no one purposely set out to make him feel that way. If a person needs peace and quiet to work, he sometimes needs to go dark and can be sent right over the edge if people keep turning on the light and keep constantly tapping on his shoulder all day and night every day and night. It is great when people want to be helpful, but when you are behind the wheel doing your best to drive the 18-wheeler, it's not like you appreciate a cab full of people trying to help you steer and work the pedals.

Just sayin'.

If I were Mark, I probably would have cracked from the pressure a long time ago. Give the man a break, maybe?

I ain't defending anything or anyone, but coins have two sides by their very nature.

I am neutral in this because I don't have the judging expertise to score a boxing match. But I think I know when someone is starting to look and sound beat up, whether the blows are coming from without or within.

His actions don't support your claims.

*A lot of hands go up. Including mine.*

Now for all with your hands up. How many of you have continued your irrational or emotional outburst days later, even after many have attempted to reassure you and resolve the issue?

*Most of the hands go down. Including mine.*

Having said that, I have to emphasize that versions 1.0 and 1.1 can be used on the same data in your Folder SleepyHeadData without any problem. You may just neglect the warnings going back and forth. Try it for yourself!!!

When you switch from one version to another some preferences get lost i cant remember witch ones off the top of my head but I found it a minor issue and SleepyHead 1.1 is much faster so I stuck with that one.

I think that if you were Mark, you would have welcomed people to help share the pressure, instead of jealously making everything about you.

He's repeatedly, over the years, shoved away *everyone* that has tried to lighten the load.

Is that his right? sure... but then to complain about that load...

The last one was when Bruce posted the new version 1.1.0 on the CPAP talk forum, while it was not yet given free by Mark.
Actually Mark thanked me for doing that.
I *HIGHLY* doubt that.

That would be completely out of character for Mark to let someone else post notice of a testing version.
I think it can be true: Mark plays with people like ignorant Bruce Image

Comments like that get threads locked.
Comments like that occur because you're acting like you're mark's approved mouthpiece, and you've been posting blatant falsehoods.

Story, I misread that. I posted 1.0 and, for a while Mark's 1.1 builds. I never posted later ones I had and Mark never gave those out for free. Mark actually thanked me for posting 1.0 separate from his servers to be sure we had it here.
To be clear, Arie says that your leaking the existence of 1.1 in a post her is what set off the meltdown last summer.

You're alleging that mark thanked you for *posting a copy of 1.0*, which he'd already announced.

Didn't he turtle right after you leaked 1.1, saying he was very upset?

We just can't take anything you say at face value, can we?
