You might consider inquiring if they can titrate you on both the ResMed and the Philips during your ASV titration- My sleep lab was able to do that on mine- I was told that their machines can switch algorithms, and it showed that I slept better with the ResMed- (that is why they were able to give me the ResMed, even though I already had the Philips)

Let's add this one in the Lies my DME told me pile.

This info is not from a DME...It's the sleep lab and it's quite possible that their equipment can do this. They are not using conventional CPAP machines.

When a titration sleep study is done they don't rely on auto algorithms....they do manual adjustments mainly. They don't wait for whatever auto algorithm might be used to kick in....they increase or decrease the pressure manually while watching the asleep breathing.

More likely, they just had both machines, either an ASV or a Tx, and then the Respironics lab machine.

I happen to have a Resmed S9 VPAP Tx (lab machine), and I can promise you that it *does not* do Philips Respironics, or any other companies algorithms.

The only 'special' aspect of the Tx is that it can switch to *all* the modes of all the machines, from cpap to iVAPS and everything in between.

With the USB adapter, any S9 allows for real time data out and remote control of settings. I've used the control unit on a VPAP Auto and a VPAP Adapt.

That's correct, *up to a point*.

They put the machine in whatever mode, cpap, autoset, vauto, asv, iVAPS, etc. and they remotely adjust the settings, but the machine and it's algorithms are still at play.

So, they do still rely on auto algorithms, especially in an ASV, since there's no way a human can react to modify pressures on a breath by breath basis.

That's what I meant to say...I should have stuck "solely" in there. They don't rely solely on the auto algorithms. There would be no need for in lab sleep studies if they did that. The human plays a part...probably especially in figuring out what EPAP to use when OSA is involved.

Well I got another ASV tritration tonight. With added oxygen hopefully so I can get that approved thru my insurance. Here’s to a good night sleep I hope.

Had my ASV Tritration last night, Slept thru everything ok....

It was weird as I was on a that Philips System One Model that has all the featues - cpap, asv etc --- Well I don't think I like it at all, seemed to breath or blow when I was not ready for the next breath.... if that makes sense.

Upon getting woken up in the AM, She could not tell me much guess she is not allowed but said the best setting for EPAP was around 7.0 she thought. Now is this going to be an issue for my Doc as I do not have a Philips ASV - I have the Resmed ASV (Can exchange for the Philips, but seeing how that was it would take some getting use too)...

I thought it was weird they only have Philips at this Sleep Center, Ive used them before and they knew I am on a Resmed Machine.

Will see I guess when I get the full report.

The technician was probably adjusting things throughout the night, since it was a titration. Settings like bi-flex, backup rate, etc., can sometimes cause you to not sync well with the machine and need to be adjusted per patient. Technically they should be able to monitor that somewhat from inside their control room, looking at the breath shapes etc, but they can never be the person with the mask on.

That is normal - lab protocols are for the techs to not really tell you much. Supposedly the doctor will review all the data and sign the report, and then tell you the recommended plan.

Not following you here...but if you're saying you don't want the DreamStation based on the experience in the lab, maybe ask if they can let you use one for a trial period and give it a fair shot?

I think that's normal. I've never seen a lab with both and I've been in 4-5 by now.
