apparently, the soft mode allows me to tolerate the epr, at least at level one.
Zonker, don't read the rest of this:

"soft mode" and "epr" are two completely different things... I don't want other people to be confused...

According to Resmed, "If set to soft, patients will receive gentler pressure rises during therapy.", meaning the set pressure will increase at a slower rate when there are events that cause pressure to rise.

EPR is a pressure *drop*, at every breath, and a rise again when you inhale. It has nothing to do with the rate, or amount, of pressure increase or decrease caused by breathing issues when in autoset mode.

Two separate, non-interrelated things.

Now, as to whatever helps zonker sleep at night... who knows, and I don't want to disturb that, but soft mode doesn't have anything to do with EPR.

It's more likely that he's just becoming better used to the machine, and the treatment, and so he's adapting to it... maybe helped by the better rest he's getting... I dunno... that's a guess.

i'm such a defiant little so 'n' so that i read it anyway. so there!!

doesn't bother me in the slightest. you are explaining facts and i'm not going to be swayed by facts.

i just know it works for ME. not saying it works for others or that there is any science behind my statement. i'd be surprised as anyone if it works for them. and i'm going to mention soft mode when i can to see if it helps others. it costs nothing to try, so i don't see why not.

what i'm saying is just a guess. i'm not putting forth a bold statement. and as far as i'm concerned, you are right to make the distinction between one and the other. it worked for me, whether as a placebo or not.

all i care about in the long run is that i'm getting proper treatment for my sdb. and i hope others do too by whatever means they can.

And, I wouldn't want you to stop doing what's working just because i say it doesn't matter.... placebos are scientifically proven, and if this is your placebo that lets you sleep without stomach pain, I'm all for it.

I just don't want someone else to think "it works for him, it'll work for me"... without realizing the 'magic bullet' part of it, and that it probably won't have that effect *for them*.
