I have also wondered about UARS in your situation.
If that is what is going on then you are going to have to play with the minimum pressures and rely on how you feel more than the numbers you see the machine reporting for any sort of evaluation or validation.
UARS people don't normally have a high AHI to start with...so we can't use AHI as a marker for evaluation of effectiveness it's already going to be low in the first place.
Instead we have to rely on how we feel in general and how we sleep and that's subjective and very hard to measure.
Need to keep a diary of sorts and log every little thing...and then be able to refer back to see if you are getting anywhere.
Hello again.
I decided to order a full face mask to see how that goes.
On another note, if I wanted to go down the road of UARS, is there a different or better machine for that? I've read a few things and can't make sense of it, but it seems I read about a different type of machine?
I'm not worried about the cost..

Buy an ASV, one prominent UARS doctor recommends them for everyone.

Do you think I could get a hold of one of those without a prescription?

Hello everyone.
I could really use some encouragement. I'm really struggling again with using the machine, not sure if it's because i stopped and am now trying again, but I've had 2 nights with literally zero sleep and my sleep performance anxiety is really high. I am now experience hypno jerks of all kinds and it's really gotten control of my mind. For the last few nights right as I'm about to fall asleep I suddenly take a deep breath and my heart won't stop racing the rest of the night, I know it's not a closures because if feels on top of a normal breath. I know I'm exhausted but I just can't get my mind to except this and fall back asleep. Now I have fears of never sleeping again with or without the mask. We drove to see family, so I was on the road driving for 2 days with the worst possible sleep, so I know exhaustion is playing a part. It's just hard to get on top of my mind. I'm sorry to sound so weak. I'm a grown man at the end of my rope crying like a baby lol. I know there are a million sleep aids that are OTC, is there one I should look for in particular? Thinking back, I use to have a very hard whole body jolt right before falling asleep before cpap, this breathing type just made my heart race and messed with my mind.

Exhaustion is the best sleep aid that there is, just don't drive when exhausted. Like, ever. Please. For your safety and the safety of others.
The solution for me (when I experienced hypnagogic jerking and sleep anxiety whenever my airway narrowed the least little bit at sleep onset) was for me to turn ramp off completely so that I had therapeutic pressure from the get-go and to make sure that pressure was high enough for me to be completely comfortable.
People who tend toward the UARS spectrum often need a high enough pressure for their airways to be absolutely stable during transitions into sleep and during transitions between sleep stages.
Please note that this is completely counterintuitive to most patients and most doctors who often believe that lower pressures are the most comfortable and that everyone should be using ramp.
You can do this. One step at a time. But let's be safe out there.
You don't sound weak. You sound determined. I admire that.

Thank you so much for those details! I have this unrealistic fear that I won't sleep again, so when you said exhaustion is the best form of sleep aid it brought me great comfort to know my body should just throw in the towel sooner or later, even though I know that from past experiences, just need a reminder. Thank you again.

No problem.
The treatment used for people with the most serious forms of insomnia often involves sleep restriction, for that very reason.
When I first started adjusting to PAP, I was doing good to get one or two hours a night. But I eventually got there.
I wish you all the best, man.

Hi Mark, you are not weak, just exhausted and frazzled and desperate for sleep. I've felt like that too sometimes and it brought back memories for me reading your post.

What I have found helpful is taking slow, measured breaths until I fall asleep. I breathe in for a count of 3, then exhale for a count of three. Concentrating on on my breathing is very relaxing for me. It usually takes me around five minutes to fall asleep this way.

So I found this one, seems to be a good one? I'm not really sure what to look for other than the bipap feature?

You don't want the AirCurve 10 ST.
It's a fixed bilevel with a back up rate.
It is NOT ASV.... you will hate it.
If you want ASV it needs to say ASV.
