Any Suggestions on a new mask for me?

Does anyone have any suggestions for me regarding a new mask?

Here's my issue.....

My current mask is a Resmed Mirage softgel and this mask has serviced me well for a number of year but after loosing 53 pounds I'm not getting as good a seal as before when I had a fatter face. I bought a Resmed Airfit N20 in the hope that this mask would be better but because I toss and turn all night long when I sleep on my side the mask would not say in place and would leak. I've been told that because of my pressure, nasal pillows combined with the tossing and turning would not be optimal either. So what is a good mask for someone that can't use nasal pillows and who tosses and turns all night long?

Thanks.

i'm sorry. i don't have a specific recommendation. i do have a suggestion, though.

if you haven't tried it yet, go to our sponsor's site cpap.com. take a look through the masks to see what catches your eye. then read the reviews.

true, a lot of mask reviews are pretty dumb. but every now and then, you get one that is worthwhile.

at least, it's a place to start.

good luck!

Resmed Activa LT was my go to mask before finding the N20. Larger and probably more stable.

Depends on the pillow mask. Some of us who wear the mask I wear, make a strap that helps keep the pillows in place. The strap goes from face strap across in front of the pillows to the other face strap. Mine are 2 pony tail scrunchies looped together, others just use thin elastic.

For what it is worth, I have found the nasal pillows to seal better when I bury them in a pillow than the other full face or over the nose nasal masks.

I use a ResMed P10, but have used the Bravida, Nuance Pro, Dreamwear nasal pillow, and the Swift FX which are all nasal pillow style.

Out of those the Swift FX is the most secure. The P 10 a close second. The Swift FX has the silicone headgear that sort of sticks to your cheeks. That keeps it from moving as much as the P 10 headgear.

If you are ok with the nasal over the nose mask and have not tried a nasal pillow, I might recommend the Swift FX. You mentioned pressure, I think you might be surprised at how well the nasal pillows can handle pressure. I do the 20" pressure mask fits with these, putting my head in the pillow and so forth, and find the nasal pillows seal better than ANY of the full face or over the nose nasal masks I have had. They ( especially the P 10 and Swift FX ) have pillows that can allow the mask to move without the pillows coming loose from the nostril. I think that is the difference for me. Any of these seal noticeably better if you use a cpap wipe on your nose area before putting them on for the night.

interesting! yet another example of how we are all different. for me, i have to hang my schnozz over the side of the pillow. if i bury my p 10 in the pillow itself, i always cause it to slide to one side and thus leak.

True!
I will also say that I experimented with different pillows and that makes a HUGE difference in the mask staying on. Tried a "CPAP" pillow and you had to be just right for it too work. Any near miss and it was so hard it scooted the mask. That only lasted a couple nights. I have a memory foam pillow that I like best as it seems more forgiving to the mask.

You need to be brave and go straight in... not sneaking up on it with a twisting motion.

You could probably do some variations of searches on different kinds of masks. This one is pretty broad.

I really like the swift fx, but its the only mask I've ever used.....as a newbie to cpap its been easy to get used to, and for the most part I start sleep on my side and it stays pretty secure. I havent had any leak issues.

I use a chin strap with the swift over it, looser than I thought I needed and it works great. The wife says I'm a restless sleeper too.

Ever try a SleepWeaver? It’ll either work for you or it won’t, no real fiddling to make it work. If it does work you’ll likely not find a more comfortable (or forgiving) mask - especially for an active sleeper. Been using them for about 8 years now. Of course, being somewhat allergic to silicon does kinda limit me on what I CAN use.

Sure wish somebody would think to do a conventional nasal using memory foam like they did the Air Touch full face. Hey, ResMed! You listening?
