I don't, usually. And it's not as if I'm giving it the "wire-brush & carbolic" treatment, it's just a quick rinse for the occasional issue when there is so much condensation that it pools in the low end of the hose and causes the mask ports to gurgle. Probably not the rampant "bacteria farm" of my imaginings, but I sleep a whole lot better the next night knowing it's been rinsed.
And besides, if I *really* wanted it clean, I'd process it scientifically with a SoClean cleaner. I understand that's what the astronauts use!
((That's sarcasm, for any sarcasm-challenged readers))

A backup hose is a great idea for when I'm, home. But the situation I'm talking about here is when I'm travelling away from home, get a ton of condensation and have to get up and get going in the morning. It's not "the end of the world as we know it", but I'd really rather not pack it wet and think of it moldering in the car trunk or airplane luggage compartment all day.

JayDee for your situation I think I would just cram some paper towels (or similar type of product) into the wet end and let the whatever absorb what little moisture is maybe still left in the wet end of the hose when I need to pack up and go.
Was thinking maybe something along the lines of a shop towel kind of thing.
I am a bit leery of doing the boring thing because it would just be my luck to damage something inside the hose since it's not smooth inside and then you have a potential for really tearing up the heating part of the hose or worse poking a hole in the hose.
If you had some extra time in the morning you could just let your machine blow and dry it out for you.
Just how much of the hose where the water might have pooled is involved when this happens? I wonder if something like one of those Swifter duster things could maybe be used????

Also try to locate the machine lower than you (bed/head) so water will run back to it and not you.

I rip apart my equipment weekly and only wash the pillows and humidifier daily. I am anal so figured the humid air would get musty if I left it without washing weekly. May be in my head but not a big deal to clean. I do use a hurricane dryer and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE it. I don't travel with it and just don't wash my hose when I am away. IF you wanted to spend the money I absolutely recommend the Hurricane as my headgear, wraps, etc. are bone dry within an hour putting my cleanliness insanity to bed.

I was that way for the first couple months--then I realized that too much handling was
DAMAGING my parts.

I wash my hose to get the outside germs off - after traveling and staying in hotels. Yuck. I need to decontaminate everything when I get home. It's easy, just takes a few minutes to soak in soapy water & rinse. Makes me feel better. I know the inside is not dirty.

How about packing the hose in a plastic bag while you travel. At night you can wash it just before use. Any moisture left in the hose would just add to the humidity in use and would naturally dry out during use.

I'm also a bit worried about how fragile the lining of that heated hose is. Those hose brushes are dirt cheap and I was thinking about trimming off the brush and tying on a small loop to put a patch of some sort through. that way, it would not be as tight, but would "mop" the majority of the moisture out (if I can't see it, then it doesn't exist, right?).
Or if I go ahead and pack it still wet-ish and it's still giving me the heebie-jeebies that night when I get in, I can not be lazy and re-rinse/re-wash it. It's just an extra step I won't be in the mood for when all I badly want to do is hit the rack...

I'm with the other Chris... I grew up in an Italian household where everything was washed, scrubbed, and cleaned with bleach. I blame my ADD on my upbringing... Besides I like faint lavender breeze that Meyers Clean Day dish detergent leaves behind obviously.

JayDee, if you are really still fretting about this after all the suggestions above.....when you wake up take the mask off the hose and turn the machine back on. Just leave the hose lying on the bed. Get dressed. By the time you are ready, the inside of the hose will be dry. Try it!

We had mildew problems with the basement when we first bought this place and that was quite a battle to get resolved. But as a legacy from that, now all I can imagine are mold/mildew spores floating around looking for any opportunity... So though I'm not too terribly obsessed with it, I'm with you on keeping things from getting "musty".

That's what I'm doing. It's just one extra step that I wouldn't mind not having to do after a long day when all I really want to do is crash and sleep. But right now, drying the hose out seems, on balance, to be as much or more effort than your suggestion/what I'm currently doing... Ain't that the way it always goes?

Most people don't realize it, but ResMed machines continue to run at a low speed for about 20 minutes after you turn them off. The purpose is to dry the hose.. Test it...After you turn off the machine, remove your mask and hold the hose up to your face to feel the air.
