I attach my hose to the headboard with just enough slack so the hose isn't under tension going from the headboard to the machine. I use a very long quality strip of velcro, the kind they use to bundle large groups of network cables. Its soft and holds really well.
The whole hose is covered in a custom extra long hose cover I made with soft blanket fleece. The hose is only attached to the headboard securely so on the off chance I do something crazy in my sleep I don't acidently pull my machine off my night stand into the floor and damage it.
IE: stood up out of bed one morning many years ago and did one of those silly stretches were you hold your breath and push up really hard with your arms. Gave my self a headrush or something and blacked out just long enough to loose my balance and wake up while still falling to the floor. My mask was still on but the hose caught at the headboard were it was attached then the quick release broke away from the mask leaving me sitting in the floor feeling stupid and anoying with my self but, with a working machine still on my night stand. [Could have been worse] Mask didn't get damaged and hose was fine as well.
As for the rest of the hose I have left I dont give it much thought. I'll pull it this way and that with out conscious effort as I sleep... where ever it is is fine with me. I think having a hose cover helps a long way with making the machine less medical and more just something soft and nice you use to help you sleep.

No need to make your bood-wah look like a sick-room with all kinds of DME-sourced paraphernalia hanging about.
Here's a photo of my hose situation. Notice it's snaked behind a desk lamp to the S9 placed on the far side. The lamp has plenty of mass to resist pulling the S9 off the table, should I roll over and drag the hose with me. It's not happened in 7 years. At our place in Washington (where I've since retired), I run the hose through the brass headboard to the Intellipap which stands on a cheap low bamboo footstool placed next to the bed. Again, the mask rips off my face without disturbing the machine if I roll over or swat a mosquito in my sleep.
And yes, the 'lectric meter works and records actual kWh used.

I have a double shelf headboard that the machine sits on and I bought two pulleys from amazon that mount on the wall that take up the slack as I move. Works for me.

Mask hose goes down toward chest. I prefer sleeping on my side that faces my APAP. So, I tuck the middle on my hose under the middle of my pillow so no pulling. If I flip over, the hose goes under my arm making sure there is plenty of hose on the front so it won't pull on my mask.
