Re: Post Menopausal Women and OSA

There is some evidence that HRT for a limited time in early menopause may reduce the chances of dementia, but my mom took HRT until all the bad cancer scares and STILL developed dementia (mixed type).
I chose not to take HRT for a few reasons:
I had fertility issues and had enough hormone treatment dealing with that. I don't want to add the straw that may break the camel's back.
Menopause is a normal thing, it's how we are designed. I don't think it necessarily needs to be "treated" as a pathological occurrence.
I had a relatively easy and smooth, if very long perimenopause. I credit my good diet with helping, my biggest symptom was hot flashes and when they were clustering I'd increase my natural fat intake--it really seemed to help. I never felt so bad that I thought I needed help with the symptoms.
I have a congenital heart disorder that involves narrowed blood vessels and HRT seems to add some risk of blood clots.
So far I have not regretted the decision, although ordinarily I'm willing to try anything to prevent dementia, I don't think there's yet enough evidence to convince me otherwise, and I'm now 5 years past menopause anyway, so it's too late for that "early menopause" treatment.
Everyone is different, I'm not disparaging anyone who chooses to use HRT. This is just my thinking for myself.
