"Read about the hazards of Naegleria fowleri in unsterilized water for nasal irrigation (a la Netti Pot®), that can cause the brain infection primary amoebic meningoencephalitis (naegleriasis) which carries a 95% risk of fatality."

Sorry, but as a water quality guy, Naegleria fowleri is a bullshit answer. The pathogen needs to be forced into the nasal passage with enough pressure to directly connect with the nerves in the olfactory system. It's killed by all water treatment plants that are functioning as prescribed. While almost universally fatal, it is rare and has no evidence of aerosol transmission. The rate of infection is about 1 in 7 billion exposures. Quit your uneducated and blatantly false scaremongering. Idiot

Thank you. Everything is hazardous. Relative risk must always be considered.

Thank you. Everything is hazardous indeed.

ETA: The CDC also cautions CPAP machines as a route for Legionellosis by aerosolization in that article. Distilled water IS sterile but its subsequent process equipment, ‘bottles’, may not be. Only water certified as for intravenous use may be considered sterile.

In the link you provided, there is no mention of CPAP.

If you want to live in fear, don't let me get in your way.

Ergo, your dribble about "sterile water" is stupid... since by the time water shows up in your local store, it's not sterile.

You really need to stop posting your fearmongering garbage.

The CDC site is HUUGE. https://www.cdc.gov/legionella/wmp/over ... pread.html

“Some examples of devices where Legionella can grow and/or spread through aerosolization or aspiration (when water accidentally goes into the lungs while drinking) include: [ ... ]Medical equipment (such as CPAP machines, hydrotherapy equipment, bronchoscopes)

Naegleria fowleri! Legionella! The sky is falling!
I'd like to see you cite one case of Legionella from CPAP. There are two cases ( https://www.sleep-journal.com/article/S ... 1/abstract ) of an association. Associations prove nothing. The infections could have come from dozens of places.

Why are you trying to scare the hell out of a new CPAPer who has a respiratory infection that is being treated by her doctor? Is this indicative of how you chose your user name?

Legionella was mentioned in the context of aerosolization, which some here deny occurs in convection humidifiers used in CPAP; with a CDC citation.
Naegleria was mentioned in the context of the purity of municipal water and distilled water, also with a CDC citation.

Please do not abuse quotes.

All these fears are mooted by following the directions in the CPAP user manual. Clean the humidifier pan and use distilled water.

You're an ignorant, feaongering fool, trying to scare people. And not welcome as a result. Your attempts to scare people will be called out and refuted.

is there a correlation between higher AHI's and using the humidifier for some people? im not saying the humidifier is to blame, but ive woken up a few nights now where my nose seems to be congested and im breathing through my mouth. again, im not saying its the humidifier. it could be something i ate, but im trying to figure out why
