I wonder if trying RG's old panty hose trick ( ... well Y'all know what I mean -- a new pair) over the port holes would also diffuse the air and quiet it down? I'll try it this coming weekend and report unless someone else beats me to it.

The Hybrid now comes in a new design, it is something called Adaptive Flow. It also has the new premium headgear that works much much better for me. My therapist got one for me through the local sleep lab. The flow coming out of the exhaust holes is definitely reduced based on my own experience and so is the noise if I route the hose over my head (but I prefer to route the hose downwards). My therapist told me that the new design works very well with all the APAP/CPAP machines. I never had any issues even with the earlier design with my Respironics AutoCPAP with C-Flex but according to my therapist, some users had issues with the Hybrid being compatible with the Resmed S8. Now she is completely sold on the Hybrid and recommends it to all her mouth breathing patients....

I just called Teleflex (the exclusive distributer for Hudson RespCare) and they claim to know nothing about an "adaptive flow" mask, or for that matter any modification of the Hybrid beyond the new headgear. I called to find out where I could purchase this "adaptive flow" as I recall some one else mentioning it. My recollection could be faulty, but I thought that a comment was that the six holes were now many many, but smaller in size.

Can you tell me who your DME is that supplied this? The only thing I can think of is that teleflex is not up-to-date on what is being shipped (possible) or that it is a prototype that is being trialed. Anyway I love my Hybrid inspite of some of it's drawbacks.

I don't know if you need a new adaptive flow hybrid unless you use the resmed machines. the adaptive flow models have different co2 holes.I use the old style and since I don't have a resmed apap anymore, I don't need the upgrade. The new hybrid headgear is awesome.

I am the sleep therapy product manager at Teleflex Medical and I apologize that our customer service did not have the most up-to-date information on the new Hybrid Adaptive Flow technology.

The Hybrid design now includes Adaptive FlowTM exhalation ports. This technology optimizes the flow through the exhalation ports resulting in maximum compatibility with different CPAP, Bi-Level, and Auto set and sleep diagnostic systems and minimum CO2 retention in the mask. The look and feel of the Hybrid is exactly the same, so there will be little to no visible difference in the product. The only change will be at the exhalation port site.

This modification virtually eliminates any false leak/mask fit alarms that the machine may give and increases the efficiency of pressure transfer to the upper airway, improving comfort and compliance (especially at pressures exceeding 12 cm H2O).

Everytime it gets brutally cold like this, I get badly congested. This year I'm doing fine and the only difference is I've been on CPAP with the Hybrid. Is it because of the air flow? I really feel like the Hybrid is putting a lot of air in through my nares. I don't wake up with a dry mouth, so I think that chin flap is helping keep my mouth shut.

If it really is keeping my nares open, kudos to the Hybrid!!!

I like the hybrid concept enough to want to purchase the new adaptive flow mask.

unless your old hybrid sets off alarms and you KNOW you have a good seal, you don't have to replace it for the new shell.

Yes it does sot of ... will a new shell with the Adaptive FlowTM exhalation ports be avialable without having to buy the whole mask over again? In other words will the shell be for sale as a separate item like the new headgear?

My therapist at the DME company Nationwide Respiratory got it from me from the local sleep lab.

I have been using the new adaptive flow Hybrid now for over 3 weeks. My numbers (especially HI) have been trending down more so the last 2 weeks. The 1st week, they were about the same.

Any idea why Hypopneas would be reduced?
