It seems to me I would need the Dreamstation rather than the A40...right?

The A40 is described as a ventilator. I don't need a ventilator.

There is an update re: the data card. I actually spoke to Respironics earlier and they confirmed they have now received an e-mail from the sleep nurse asking for my data card so they can do a download. They never received a request after my last visit.

It is not a great feeling that you just cannot trust the people i/c your care to get it right. I need to be sure of my ground to challenge them.

Hopefully, I will get a sleep study done soon. Seeing sleep doctor in about two weeks.

Depends on what the script is for... The Dreamstation comes in many versions from straight CPAP to APAP, Basic BiPAP to Auto, S and ST also AVAPS and ASV ...

OK, it seems I need ASV rather than AVAPS. Why would I need a ventilator as I do not have chronic lung disease?

The more I think about it, I feel I should give my current machine every chance before I switch. Like getting a sleep study done and establishing my optimum pressure.. And then seeing how I get on. And then maybe trying the ASV if necessary.

You're the one that keeps mentioning the A40 and ASV being machines that have been mentioned that may treat you... I was only showing you that the Dreamstation comes in many versions.... Why not get another study done first to figure out for sure what it is you need.. And what machine are you using atm, what are your numbers like with it?

AVAPS wouldn't have been mentioned if you didn't need it for some reason.. Go get an apt with your Dr. and sort all of this out ...

I was just asking the obvious question and thankyou for demonstrating the various options. I assk questions not in a spirit of criticism to previous replies but because I genuinely need to know the answer.

Well, you would hope the A40 wouldn't have been mentioned if I didn't need it, but I am far from sure that is the case.

I have lost a great deal of confidence in the person who said it, who despite plenty of good qualities admitted herself she
"didn't know what to do to with me", as stated above. In fact, I am glad she was honest about that.

So please bear in mind what I am dealing with here. Someone who has been caught out lying to me, who thinks ASV is a type of CPAP and who is very used to seeing patients with chronic lung conditions. I cannot just change to a different clinic.

I have to hope the doctor is more enlightened. but I do not believe she is a sleep apnea specialist rather a respiratory consultant who also treats apnea. For now, the best source of knowledge is this forum. Thtas the position I am in right now.

I hope she agrees to a sleep study and an onward referral.

I think a referral to a tertiary centre is by far the best option where they would hopefully be far more knowledgeable. In the Uk treatment in major London hospitals often (though not always) outstrips that in provincial hospitals to a considerable degree.

If I did not keep informing myself it could lead to major mistakes in my treatment. Harsh experience has taught me not to trust doctors or assume they know what they are doing.
