Anyone with experience with Trazodone? Many nights I cannot go to sleep because my mind is running wild jumping from one subject to another. I sometimes don’t sleep until 6am or at all . Other times I go to sleep normally but then wake up after 1 1/2 hours and never go back to sleep. A neurologist prescribed Trazodone. I hoped my problems would go away. I normally take 1 pill (100mg) before bedtime and most of the time things go according to plan. However, quite often It doesn’t work so I take another 1/2 pill. That doesn’t help so I don’t go to sleep at all that night. Anyone have similar problems?

Family member has this problem due to the manic part of bipolar. This is where things like meditation can help, although believe me, I know it isn't for everybody and won't work for everybody. Look up stuff like Guided Mediation for Bedtime. It doesn't solve the problem of your waking up repeatedly, but MAY help you get back to sleep again. Note: if you find something on Youtube, use one of those free programs to download it to your computer, then move it to your phone or tablet. If you try to use it directly from Youtube, it will keep stopping because of the way Youtube works (if screen goes blank, it stops because it assumes you aren't watching).

It can have serious respiratory consequences... breathing trouble, etc... not something you want to mix with OSA or Cpap.

I had one Dr. tell me he never prescribed it for his male patients because of a
small but real risk of priapism . This is a painful erection that will not go away.
It's no laughing matter, If not treated in time it can result in the loss of the penis.

My doctor also prescribed Trazadone, but a smaller dosage. With the 50mg pill, I can take up to two pills. I only take one, and that just occasionally. I've tracked Sleepyhead data, and the trazadone makes no difference in my breathing patterns or AHI. It does give me a better shot at a restful night's sleep.
