If it tends to tear in the same place, (an apparent product fault) re-enforcing BEFORE the damage occurs makes sense....can you get to both sides?
Regarding the poster suggesting to use aquarium silicone; silicone is silicone, if it's not, it's something else and won't repair silicone. Sorry to overstate the obvious.

The probably opened and read your suggestion at the board meeting. They all laughed, and patted each other on the back, saying "I knew that would increase sales.... And profit!

The worst ideas ever begin in department head meetings.

I wasn't trying to be picky...just that they often add a mold inhibitor to silicone sealant and the aquarium stuff definitely doesn't have that.

No sweat Kevin. I believe the sealant with the mold additive will state "not for aquarium use" on it's label.

What's it for, plumbing seals and such? I just got lucky I think as I used to repair aquariums and looked for the word on the silicone tube.

I wouldn't think silicone would make good mold food. Jim

No. have tub, won't travel, but I would think it's growing from what is built up on it, not silicone. Mold stopping additive probably is added to inhibit surface growth. Jim
Dispite I don't wash my equiptment, I have never seen mold on my mask it 13 years.

In addition to aquarium silicone, there is also food-grade silicone.
Either would be safe for use in a cpap application, BUT!
Be extremely careful to avoid use until the stated cure time is over.
Until curing is complete, there will be outgassing of noxious/toxic chemicals.
Unpleasant in the best situation--but can be even worse.

Vinegar is not the only by-product of silicone curing.
It is the most identifiable, but cannot be assumed to be the only product emitted.
Some silicones cure with other substances.
