New to CPAP

Hi everyone! I'm 7 days in and committed to making this work. Last night was a record of 7 hours of sleep according to myAir score with Resmed AirSense 10.

My concern while exploring the app is that my events per hour last night was 11 (which I've been averaging since using the machine). Were these events averted or actually happened?

My RX calls for min pressure of 5 and max of 20.

Any help would be appreciated?

The events per hour you see reported are the ones that slipped past the defenses and weren't prevented.
We have no way of knowing how many were actually prevented from happening.

You might want to get available software so you can see in better detail what is going on. 11 per hour...too high assuming your were asleep and not awake.

You may need a pressure adjustment but let's make sure that what you are trying to fix with more pressure is first fixable with more pressure.

When you have time please add your equipment to your profile like I have mine. It will help us help you better and faster.

Thank you for your response. I added my equipment and downloaded SleepyHead. As soon as I get some data, I'll post up. Thank you again.

Okay, I have some data from last night. It appears I have some issues. Below is the note from the importer page.

The last time you used your ResMed AutoSet...
was last night (on Wednesday, April 25, 2018)
You had an AHI of 7.80, which is considered not very good
You machine was on for 5 hours, 46 minutes and 4 seconds.
You had a small but acceptable amount of major mask leakage.
Your pressure was under 20cmH2O for 95% of the time

Do you sleep on your back much of the time?

I sleep both on my sides and back. Although more comfortable on my sides, I end up on my back.

Yeah...I prefer my side for comfort and usually end up on my back. Staying off one's back is easier said than done.

You need a significant pressure adjustment and it looks like you are going to need pressures in the high teens and maybe even more than 20 cm at times.

When is your follow up appointment with the sleep doctor?

How do you feel about changing the minimum pressure yourself?

Did you have an in lab titration sleep study with mask and cpap machine to determine optimal pressures or where you given the apap so the machine could sort it out?

I've been able to enter clinical mode -- So no problem adjusting myself. I do have an appt. scheduled 2-weeks out but rather not go if I don't have to (distance, time, money). I seem I'm getting more help from you than them.

I adjusted my min pressure from 5 to 7 --still doesn't seem enough.

I suggest you keep that appointment unless you get really lucky with some significant pressure changes.
Once your machine goes up it stays up and I don't know how much help more minimum is going to be but it needs to be tried.

Leave ramp on...I think you will need it and change the minimum pressure to 15 and see what happens tonight.
Keep EPR set to 3 for now.
If you keep maxing out the 20 cm you are probably going to need a different machine that will go higher.

I'll up the minimum pressure tonight and repost data in the morning. It may be maxing out because of slight mask leak, which starts a literal whirlwind. Sometimes it happens while I'm sleeping, and when I wake my mouth and throat are Sahara dry. I have to stop the machine and adjust my mask and restart. I even think I experienced Aerophagia the other night, which was very painful. I think a saw a mask leak alarm in the settings - I'll set this as well.

No...it's not maxing out because of leak. It's maxing out because it is trying to hold your airway open.
Your leaks are minimal and not a factor in the machine wanting to go higher.

After looking back at the data, I see what you mean. I'll report in the morning. Thank you again!!

How come 2 1/2 hours is all you got?

You are going to need even more minimum and even then I am unsure that it will be enough.

Like 16 or 17 minimum. You are spending quite a bit of time maxed out at 20 cm. The machine wants to work harder but it can't.

I didn't get much sleep last night. I"ll get more data tonight. With the current minimum, I feel it's too much. Perhaps it's something I have to get used to.

Is there a recommended CPAP pillow?
