You have a "somewhat good point" BUT and it is a very big but.

Many (I would venture to guess most) first time buyers do not know that they can buy whereever they want and they are not told unless they find a forum like this and even then in many cases it is too late.

AND

While we are all looking for the lowest cost from our own pockets, the overall system hits us in other ways such as insurance premiums that more and more of us have to shoulder in greater percentages, as well as what is taken out of our pockets due to skyrocketing medicare costs.

While these don't directly influence an individual's purchase of one CPAP item or supplies, they do affect us all in the bigger picture and many of us here are interested in seeing the bigger picture change.

Go ahead and vote for Hillary Clinton in 2008 and after she gets her health care agenda through you will really appreciate what a great health care system we have now even with all of it's flaws. Under Billary everyone will have unlimited health care at low cost but we will all wait ten years to see a provider...I'll take the system we have now.

Then I'm suprised that you "waste" your time on topics that are "useless".

Called our cpap doc office to see about getting a headgear clip as one fell off on our trip and we cannot find it. I can order it online for like $7 but have to wait for it to ship. They said we can have it ready for you to pick up and so I said great and how much....she tries to brush me off on it by saying oh they bill insurance and so forth and I clearly explain I need to know due to our deductible. She comes back with $230 plus tax to which I respond for only a clip?? To which she explains they cannot replace parts only can give me a whole new mask. Ridiculous and outrageous! Is it any wonder we do not replace our supplies as often as we should with gouging like that?

If you need a small part, always consider a big truck stop.
They carry cpap stuff, because drivers can NEVER afford to skip a night.

You didn't have a stash of spare parts (from previously used) or extra masks??? If not, that's "ridiculous and outrageous".

Most of us do, we even keep a few extra for our friend Murphy and his Law, He's a danger in a china shop. The bad thing the same parts keep breaking due to flaws in the mask. Jim

An old post to be appending to... but not knowing what type of mask you have, I'd say some duct tape and a bent hairpin would probably be a good fix while the new clip ships. When I travel I take one foot of duct tape and wrap it around about a half a pencil stub. Both are pretty handy from time to time and the tape and pencil weight virtually nothing.
