Originally my doctor prescribed a Resed vpap III. I have no idea if he asked for a card but I doubt it. The insurance company wanted the card and the DME told me that because they wanted the card, the machine had to be the Respironics. I guess Resmed has no cards

Oh yeah they do!!! I was scripted the Resmed S8 Elite and it has data card capabilities. Plus I was able to get the software and reader so I can download from the card myself.

It sounds like it is more a matter of your DME not having the Resmed software and reader and not wanting to buy it - or your insurance company - and I've not heard of the insurance companies being the ones to download and collect the data. I think your DME is handing you a bunch of horsepuckies. Or at least trying to. Maybe you should do as I suggested earlier, only instead of calling your insurance company, write to them and get their answers back in writing to shove in your DME's face.

That is really awful. Would they do that not to buy a $200 software package? Couldn't it be possible that the insurance company wants the DME to download the information and mail it to them? And, isn't it also possible that the insurance company doesn't want to pay the thousand dollar premium for the Resmed label?

I guess it could also be possible that the DME didn't have any Resmed vpap III loaner/rentals and detoured me to the Respironics.

I think I have to speak with the insurance company give the DME one last chance to avoid a problem.

Did I read this wrong? Why in the world would your insurance company want your card? Why in the world would you EVER EVER let an insurance company see this data?

I can think of 1 reason that the DME would not want to switch machines, it appears that you are using the Tank model now. If they swap it out, they will have a used Tank that they cannot sell as new, and then have to give you an M-series.

Awwwww, poor DME, they would have to settle for a reasonable profit instead of an obscene profit.

You old machine would undoubtably become a "loaner", or sold to some unsuspecting newbie. If your insurance company has been renting the machine for a reasonable period of time, they have probably already paid for the price of the machine (without a mark-up). I really don't mean to be bashing DME's with this post, its just the only reason I can think of. That or they are trying to get rid of the old stock and don't want to buy the newer models yet.
