Telly:
You may have mentioned, sorry if I missed it, but what pressure are you at.
If you are just starting CPAP treatment, you can reasonably expect some soreness in the chest/intercostal/diaphragm area as you are not used to breathing out against the pressure. The good news is that you will get used to the pressure, build up a bit of muscle, and be fine in no time at all.
If you find yourself feeling really sore, and/or having some bloating from swallowing air, you can try having your pressure reduced for awhile and propping yourself up in bed somewhat.
Personally, I think that anyone on a pressure over 8 should be titrated up to their treatment pressure over the course of several days. Starting out on a high pressure (I was started at 14 on CPAP) can lead to lots of discomfort and, possibly, non-compliance. Incidently, although i was prescribe 14 by the sleep quack that I started with, APAP says I only need 8 for most of the night with periodic increases to 10.
I guess I'm babbling; just wanted to let you know that the chest pain can be quite explainable.
Hope your first night went well!

I didn't really say, Will. I'm at 11cmH20

Thanks for the reassurance. My chest still feels kinda tight, so I was concerned. I'm glad to hear its kinda normal. Almost feels like the tightness as if it were a chest cold.

I'm not swallowing any air as don't feel bloated. I'm not super sore, light to moderate soreness I guess. I'll keep your idea in mind.

I think it will probably be the same for me. I have to buy my APAP first. This machine is only a rental until I get my APAP.

Thank you, I feel much more secure now.
Hope your first night went well!
It did, and my body feels great. First time in a long time that I was hungry for breakfast first thing in the morning and a normal lunch time. This is, of course, a good thing!

Hi telly!
Took me about 10 days or so to get over the strange feeling lungs.... so don't get discouraged, give it a bit more time.
All in all I think it sounds like you're off to a great start so I guess it's time for me to do the happy-dance! Yippeee!
Tricia
Tricia: who hopes she gets to do the happy dance as often as possible, Hey! It's Christmas!... that's another good reason!! Peace on Earth and Goodwill to All.....

Thank You Rusty. And Merry Xmas to you young lady.
You somethng, I actually think I am sick. I just think it's a weird coincidence that I got sick on the same day as I got my CPAP.
I'm sure stranger things have happened on this board.

I had that too.
Weird. Coughed up lots of lovely goop. But that was it. Fine the next day or so.
I also wondered why but I am 8 months going now and feel much better than ever.
Hang in there.

Hey telly!
....sorry to hear your getting sick.
Just had to say thank you for the best Christmas present I've had in years.... "young lady" - does it for me!
telly wrote:Thank You Rusty. And Merry Xmas to you young lady.
Wishing you a speedy recovery, a wonderful Christmas and a great start into the New Year!
Tricia: who, being 47, will have to kick off her shoes and do the barefoot version of the happy dance.... as soon as she can stop giggling long enough....

Telly-are you using a humidifier?? First few nights I was on CPAP didn't have it turned up enough and felt very congested . Once I got my humidity adjusted correctly had no more issues. AAhhhh-CPAP may be your greatest Christmas present of all times

Thanks for the thoughts gang.
But you know what?
I have a full blown cold with nasal congestion.
I can only think that this is an odd coincidence,
and a horrible joke played upon someone with
a good attitude going into CPAP treatment.
Last night during Xmas, I was having a great deal of
anxiety because both my nasal passages were clogged.
I got one passage open with some Theraflu, but that stuff
has the unfortunate effect of keeping you WIDE awake.
So I did not get good sleep last night because I was
operating with only one nostril and on Theraflu.
Probably woke up a dozen times.
However, if I can make through last night, I can make it
through anything. Tellyho!
As an aside, my old man paid me a compliment last night
that was way out of character for him.
"Son, I'm very proud of you for all the positive changes
you are going through right now, especially about taking
care of the sleep apnea."
My Dad never says stuff like that. . Step-monster was cool too. She tells me that she is glad that I have support from other users (here at cpaptalk). She (on Weight Watchers for 25 years, also went to ALANON from her previous marriage) says that you the support of others is KEY when you are going through a difficult time.
I agree.
And WC, I'm gonna crank up the humidifier tonight a bit higher.
Maybe it'll help keep both passages up and running tonight.
Man, I need a full face mask for times like these.

Thanks Rooster. You've got some excellent advice there.
I'll go fetch a Neti Pot and some Sudafed post-haste.
My family gave me similar advice.
Dad: Saline Solution spray helps me.
Sister in Law: Go easy on the nasal spray, it can have nasty after effects
