No, the hyperventilation is NOT caused by CPAP.
It is all on you.
Consult your doctor about solutions for your anxiety.

Hello friends
I need help, please.
I have a serious problem with the use of CPAP.
CPAP is causing Hyperventilation.
I wake up with severe hyperventilation symptoms.
Please, anyone have hyperventilation using CPAP?
How to solve this problem?
Hi there -- I am wondering if you spoke with the doctor and what the result was? I am having the exact same symptoms. it is NOT anxiety. I think the constant pressure is throwing my brain's regulation system for a loop.

Please don't fight against your CPAP, work with it. Try to pretend it's not there (I know it's hard, but try it).

Also, make sure that the exhalation ports are not blocked.

Hey.

I am having the same problems too. It's so bad.

I had it chronically first few days of use, then it disappeared... so bad that it felt like a rubber band snapped in my head, that I looked up and says that's what a brain aneurysm feels like...

Was going well for about 2 or 3 weeks, then started waking up with mask on floor most nights...

3 nights ago, was first time since beginning I didn't wear if.. then last night I wore it after having a few beers, woke up with same symptoms again.

Fuzzy head
Tingling lips and mouth
Anxious a bit all day

Tired

I also self diagnosed myself with a sleep app that records me sleeping. Heard me choking out and waking up. . One thing I noticed is how shallow and fast I breathe when sleeping...

My mate have me his old cpap machine he used for 2 weeks before he upgraded. Auto one...

So I just went for it.

Oh yeah. I bought an oxygen meter for it. I got down to 80% the night while i was on cpap... I dismissed that as some error..

But now I'm thinking it wasn't...

Anyway, anyone know what caused their hyperventilating issues.
Anyway, what's

I’m new to cpap but I had trouble understanding how to breathe with it. It took me a few nights to understand it is constant air pressure not an in and out that I need to time my breathing with. I felt stupid. Everyone has great input about checking with pressures and also checking with your doctor.

Well stated! Every newbie should be told this.

A properly operating CPAP system does NOT cause hyperventilation. A user's anxious response to CPAP may cause hyperventilation.

You would do better to read the stickies at the top of the index page, start using OSCAR and post some CPAP results charts for comments by experienced users. Start your own thread for this purpose.

Please fill out your equipment profile - https://www.cpaptalk.com/ucp.php?i=prof ... pment_info

+1

except for the felt stupid part. not need for that. you weren't born knowing this.

and it's good for you to share it. many times, the more seasoned users here forget that part about breathing.

Hey Stephanie-fellow newbie. No need to feel that way—we’re all here to learn and help each other out, to figure out how to have better therapeutic experiences, & hopefully feel better overall. I too felt pretty clueless the first few nights (and my sleep doc was pretty good at explaining the whole process). But reading the forums gave me a far better understanding of what this whole cpap thing is all about—I really had no idea there’d be this big cpap community online brimming with information, helpful tips, and support.

Still, after a couple of weeks of adjusting pressures and settings, I was having trouble, feeling like I was suffocating then semi-hyperventilating to compensate. My doctor’s PA suggested changing masks. Fortunately that helped immensely (went from Dreamwear nasal pillows to Dreamwear FFM), and now I kinda look forward to putting it on because it’s actually comfortable.

So you never know what one change or tweak can do. Hope you can get your setup dialed in and you can start getting better results!

I actually haven’t even tried the nasal only. I started with the full face because I knew I tend to open my mouth once I’m asleep. Which could be due to my apnea being severe but I wanted to try it first. I tried to cut my own head off the first few nights having the mask too tight lol. Now after 8 nights it’s been loosened so much and is much more comfortable than I ever expected. Still not fun but I’ve had zero leaks with this mask. 👍

Now that made me practically spray my tea across the room laughing out loud!

i have a similar problem , except i don't wake up , I slip into like a coma with SP O2 levels below 60%
I have done studies 3 different doctors to find a solution , but so far nothing The only thing that gets me out of the hyperventilation is somebody waking me up.
I fall asleep ok and can sleep for an hour or so then just start very fast short breaths , and keep going like this until the technician thinks I cant keep going like this and wakes me up.
I had one instance it took 2 technicians to wake me , and they then cancelled any further CPAP for the rest of the night.

Be a pest until your medical team takes care of your problem.
Do not let them blow you off. (And let you suffer/die)
Cpap is positively NOT causing your problem.

That is HYPOventilation, the opposite of HYPERventilation.

HYPERventilation is like taking big deep breaths till you start feeling weird, and your O2 levels go UP, and CO2 down.

So, not a similar problem
