Over there the admin is always right even when they are wrong. There is a sticky saying that their site is secure even though they refuse to use ssl certificate encryption. Hey are just http not https.

Here I am willing to accept that other people can have a different point of view than mine and voice it and unless I feel that point of view is potentially dangerous to someone I won't say much except offer my point of view if I say anything at all.
Lord knows there's a lot of people here that don't think like I do about something...if I were to go axing people just because they said something I didn't particularly like or believe...we wouldn't have so many people here.

Often it isn't so much that a person is right or wrong but simply one of those YMMV things. Just because some else gets a different mileage than I do doesn't mean that there is a right or wrong to things.

And yes...I am smart enough to know that I don't know everything and more than happy to acknowledge an error that I made ..own up to it and learn from it and move on. No hard feelings to the person who pointed out that error.
Now if it's just a difference on opinion about something...I have the same right to my opinion as the next person but I don't go forcing my opinion down other peoples' throats.

Now when differing opinions get to the point that the bickering turns into all out World War III and the forum becomes toxic because of it...then I will step in. It takes a lot to get to that point for me and when I asked Johnny about "when do I step in" I was told "use your own judgement"...
Now my own line in the sand may not be the same line that someone else might have...I try to think like I think Johnny would think (after all this is his forum) and I learned from past experience here that it takes a lot for someone to cross that line.

I try to go by the user agreement terms to develop my own line in the sand all the while keeping in mind what I have learned in the past about where Johnny draws the line.
Being a smart ass ...annoying as it might be... doesn't violate any of the terms of agreement.
Swinging a big 2 X 4 with a person's comments about something and using "tough love"...doesn't violate any of the terms of agreement.
Voicing a different opinion in a rather blunt way...doesn't violate any of the terms of agreement.
Being what some people might term a bully ...doesn't violate any of the terms of agreement.

And the person who doesn't like what or how someone says something has the right to voice their opinion but they have to realize that the person who said something they don't like ...has that same right. Makes for some ugly "discussions" sometimes I know but we have to accept it and move on. Nothing in life is ever perfect.

I don't particularly like name calling (but I do it too sometimes) but again...doesn't violate the terms of agreement to call someone an asshole, troll, jerk, smart ass or jackass because we are just voicing an opinion and everyone has the same rights when it comes to opinions even if those opinions aren't real pretty or make us cringe or even see red.

I think that no matter where we may find ourselves either online or offline, for most folks with few exceptions, we have a subconscious, innate compulsion to gather into groups. From one end of the societal spectrum to the other, we clump together for most any reason and immediately start forming an "us versus them" point of view. Birds of a feather, flock together and all that.

Beyond that, I joined Cpaptalk first simply because I found it first and it looked active. Cpaptalk led me to Apneaboard, but primarily for the links to some files. I bet as far as the topic of CPAP goes, you can get good info, advice & support from either forum. Personal preference as to which flock suits you. At least for me, Cpaptalk seems much more relaxed and casual. That's more in line with the type of flock I can keep up with. Opinions may vary.

I saw in an earlier msg where Apneaboard censored the text, "cpaptalk.com". So out of curiosity, I searched their forums for the text and lo and behold, not only do they censor it, but they took the time to configure their forum system to programmatically censor the text! That actually made me chuckle!

If I understand correctly, to refer to cpaptalk.com, you have to refer to it as something like, "the forum related to supplier #1".

They force you to refer to it by (for lack of a better description) using a "nickname". However, everyone -- including their mods -- knows full well what forum is being referred to when you do. But if everyone knows what forum you are referring to, then what exactly have they accomplished?

It all seems rather childish to me. I guess opinions vary.

So as long as I'm welcome, I think I'll stick with, "the forum related to supplier #1".

Except Supplier #1 is cpap.com, not cpaptalk.com. There is no way to reference cpaptalk or cpaptalk.com over on ApnneaBoard..
