Here's one of my dumb ass moments that I can now share so you know that it happens to all of us.

Years ago the machines didn't have SD cards..they had what we call smart cards which were about the size of a credit card and they required a special card reader to communicate with the computer.
One day my computer couldn't find my smart card and the day before it could...so I spent 2 full days doing various things to try to get the computer to find the smart card which included uninstalling the driver software for the special card reader so many times I lost count and even doing a Windows restore point back to when I knew it worked.
Nothing worked...I was so pissed.
Pulled the Smart card out of the card reader...and here's the dumb ass moment...I had the smart card inserted backwards. No wonder it wouldn't work but I spent 2 full days trying to sort out the issue.
Never made that mistake again though.

Years ago when I was taking a programming class, I owned an Apple 2E with dual disk drives, which was one of the hottest home pcs you could get at that time. I was working on a Pascal program that would read data in from a floppy disk, and then write the results out to a different file on the disk. I ran the program and my machine would lock up. I had reboot the computer, and when I checked the floppy disk, the new file was there, but it caused my computer to stop working every time I ran the program. I spend all night Thursday working on it, and went to work on Friday with no sleep. After working on it all weekend, I could never find out my problem. Finally, at work on Monday morning I realized what I had done wrong. With the old Apple DOS system, I had to close the keyboard as the input source and open the disk drive as the input source, and close the monitor as the output and open the disk drive as the output. I forgot to reopen the keyboard and monitor after everything was done. The machine was sitting there waiting for me to tell it to do something, but I could not tell it what to do. It's the little things that bite in the backside more so than the big things. Big things you can see, but the little things sneak up on you.

Who here remembers the days when you had to type in DOS commands to get your computer to do things.

Current windows program would not fit on my first hard drive.

When I was in college I worked in an optical design laboratory and programmed a computer who's only input device was punched paper tape. Wow I though I was hot stuff.

or something like that...

I never used the punched tape, but I have used punch cards.
