I care about CPAPtalk and its mission.

I don't agree with most who have posted to this thread though. I think a moderated forum loses its ability to talk strait at things, which is often what is lacking in other mediums of support. If we moderate we cross a line and are forever changed. From that time forward, someone else will decide for each individual what may be said and what may not be. Most have called for this change, and there have been abuses, but I'd consider we'd have lost something special if we did it.

So then, what values does this forum stand for? My personal values, the values of the majority or whatever dictated values result in the greatest number of newbies helped with the most effective information?

You could argue I'm already dictating values, just with a light enforcement touch. I am the only one with a ban button and its use or lack of use doesn't make that less true.

You could also argue this forum has been successful exactly because it has worked on its mission in a way which is outside of the majority opinion and that changing that is bad.

What I do know is that emotions are high and that's never a good time to make a good long term decision.

I will continue to read this thread and think on this.

As a 11-year+ forum member, I applaud your decision to maintain the forum as it has always been.

The recent mainstream "politically correct" subculture would rather lose their freedom of expression than be offended .... and in the end, everybody will be offended by something until there is nothing left for anyone to do except keep our thoughts and ideas to ourselves and listen/watch the dark silence all around.

Thanks for what you have done for me and for what you do for everyone else.
+1 Nice speech Roberto...does this apply to Guests too?

You need to get a life, a wife, or even a hobby will help since growing up is out of the question.

What do you suggest as a hobby? Digging in a Garden maybe?

That might be preferable to digging your own grave which is all you ever do.

Maybe you could learn to trouble shoot - see if you can learn to determine what is the "root cause" of the turmoil on this forum. Look for "Root Cause" not what LAST doesn't like but the "Root Cause".

I'll be "Rootin" for ya.

From a newbie: What I see here is a mess that's more likely to chase new folk away than help them. Topics get totally unusuable because they become sniping matches. Someone who genuinely needs help or advice will get one or two actual responses, then four pages of bickering and personal attacks. The only truly useful parts (besides that one or two responses from the trustworthy people) are the archived information, and even some of that is pretty chaotic.

I have no relationship whatsoever with any other poster here, so came in with no biases. It's clear that there are two or three current posters who are toxic. They are 80% responsible for making this place nearly intolerable and useless for new people (the other 20% are the people who engage, even literally just hours after vowing to ignore the toxic posters). It's the old 80-20 rule. 20% of customers cause 80% of the problems. You have to decide whether those 20% are worth losing some of the 80% and a whole lot of new people moving forward. Is new business important to you? Think about that. Those toxic posters are likely driving away people who will never return and will never refer other people to this board.

My two cents. Maybe implement a "flag this post" option and if X number of people flag it, "hide" it until it can be reviewed. If it's bad, delete it. Someone gets too many deletions, they get banned or suspended. I'm not an expert on moderation, and don't think it should be heavy-handed. But when so many threads devolve into uselessness, the value of the board declines for new members moving forward.

I don't understand why having a few basic rules would make this place a police state. I don't understand why making it so only registered users can post would be a violation of human rights and dignity. I don't understand why it's important to allow someone to freely call almost everyone here a "libtard" in almost every discussion thread. We aren't envisioning some dystopian moderated future where nobody can participate unless they spit out the party line. We are just asking about a few very specific actions that are engaged in for the sole purpose of fomenting chaos and misery. The focus seems to be on protecting the rights of trolls. Why?

It's not Guests who have been calling names here. Why don't you like Guests? Were you never one? Don't believe in Southern Hospitality?

Focus on the problem.

There ARE rules... user-agreement.php

Only, apparently, nobody in charge cares.

xxyzx violates *at least* seven of these prohibitions with a large majority of his posts:
post any material, or links to any material that is (at our sole discretion) knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violates any law;
Only, "at our soul discretion", ... so perhaps he doesn't, in the owner's view.

My introduction to CPAP was from watching LankyLefty videos - highly recommended! From there, I discovered his forum, the ApneaBoard forum, and this forum. Luckily, there was enough good information to help me settle in to my therapy before this forum devolved into name calling and slap fights. I have been staying away for longer stretches at a time, and am heading towards staying away for good. Not that my absence would mean anything.

Johnny if you stopped proxy addresses this problem will go away just like magic.

Many of the "Guests" are actually members who are posting as guests so they can attack incognito.
