Easy solution to tangled uncomfortable hoses

My first few nights of using the CPAP machine were unreal. The extra hose kept falling off the side of the bed and the weight of them would pull the nose piece away from proper alignment. When I tried placing the extra hose on the other side of me, I would wake up to my husband unconsciously pulling on my hose that he was getting tangled in.

We found the perfect solution! Using a plant hanger hook (placed in ceiling over upper chest/neck area) and a bungee cord (they come in different lengths) to hold the extra tubing, I no longer have the problem of getting tangled or having the nose pillow getting pulled out while I sleep. My sleep scores have gone WAY up. I can roll side to side with no problems. The CPAP hose seems to fit perfectly in the hook of the bungee cord and it's easy to slide the hose to adjust the right amount of slack down by my nose.

Mine was even simpler: two hair elastics and a hose minder clip. I have a high headboard, so I routed the hose around the back and over the top. I used the two hair elastics to make a loop around a slat of the headboard, and clipped the hose minder clip to the elastic to reduce slipping. Hose stays up over my head, allows me to roll side to side, and doesn't get tangled on anything.

Lots of DIY hose management systems out there...and some people prefer a store bought system.

Here's a thread with lots of DIY hose management ideas from the past.

That's how I do mine. If you put a twist in the rubber band it will hold it in place. You can use 1 or more. Takes up minimum space in suitcase when traveling. Bring more when traveling in case you need more distance. Or you can tie in a shoe string or piece of yarn. Or use a command strip hook to hold the elastic band.

If the head of the bed is against a window, clothespins clipped to the curtains,
with a chain of dollar store scrunchies will do the trick.
Duck tape clings nicely to motel "headboards", and cleans off easily.
Command strips work almost anywhere, and remove if needed.
I have a casting rod segment duck taped to a swivel plant hanger, (screwed to the wall)
with various bungees to allow full range of movement at home.
This last setup looks ever so slightly BDSM, if you get my drift.

At home, we simply rout the hose up over the headboard. When we travel, we use a hose boss and stick it above the head of the bed.

Another approach: I tape the short hose of my Airfit P10 to my chest. Other common methods like routing the hose through the headboard or clipping it to the covers still left me with leaks from the hose getting pulled as I moved. Taped it to me, no more leaks or any other hose bother.

3M's 2" Medipore H tape (Amazon) works great. With most of my sleeping on my left side, the hose gets taped on the chest near my right shoulder. With your mask on, stretch your head up & away from wherever you tape to give yourself slack. Since the tape is on the short hose, getting up during the night only requires disconnecting the main hose.

This method obviously isn't for everyone – just figured one more method for people to try can't hurt.
