Use the So Clean machine. Worthwhile investment..about 300.00. Just drop the whole thing (mask and hose) n the compartment and it cleans it all via ozone. You do nothing. Cannot imagine not using it--cleanliness is so important with cpap. The cost is nothing over a life time..or however long the unit may last. .

Chicago Granny posted this yesterday ...taken from the So Clean user manual.....Do you bother to read posts?
SoClean does not kill any germs. If you follow the instructions in the user manual, the germs are gone before the So Clean machine is used.
1. Pre-washing your Equipment
Use ΒΌ of the included pre-wash with
a gallon of water to wash your CPAP
equipment (mask, hose, and reservoir), then
rinse thoroughly with clean water.

If you don't want to be told how nutz you are for using the SC machine, don't continue to sing its praises. The majority think it's a waste of money; but if you are happy with it that's all that matters. There are a few people who use it and are afraid to say anything for fear of being pounced on. So prob a good idea if you use it but not continue saying how wonderful you think it is. Of course, if you don't mind being pounced on...

That's what was recommended by my doctor. I have sinus issues, maybe that has something to do with it? Honestly I never though about not using it

The opposition to so clean seems to have a near religious zealot-like character here. Wonder why?

Because it's a $300 gimmick that preys on germ paranoia that has NOT been proven to reduce more germs than the manufacturer's recommendations? Any germs in your CPAP come from YOU and the environment YOU inhabit, unless you're traveling frequently, and even then a simple cleaning with soap and water will do away with any hitchhikers. It's simply not necessary.

I don't disagree with your assessment of the device, but do people carry then the same zealotry with all examples of useless devices sold to consumers?

Yes, the world is full of fools, each generation the ratio of fools to practical folks gets higher. Jim

Her Super Insurance is so good, it probably even Paid for her So No Clean, it may have even her a coupon for a second unit. They probably sent a person to the house to clean all the free masks. Jim

The So Clean gets it germ free. Some people are more sensitive to germs, that's where the machine comes into play. . Throw the mask and hose in the compartment and be done with it. It also cleans all the way to the hose at the other end. What more could u want?

Doesn't it make a lot of noise smashing all those germs by smashing them by throwing the So No Clean on them. If you just used a Brick, you could have saved that money for booze and Lysol. Jim

Some people get dry nasal passages from using CPAP. Some don't.
If you do, the CPAP humidifier may help. If you don't, why mess with the humidifier? (I don't use the humidifier, and I don't get dry nasal passages.)

Baby wipes on the silicone of the mask weekly will keep it lasting longer than daily soap and water.
Some bad advice there. Don't wait until you see pinkish stuff in you water tank. I followed that suggestion a couple of years ago until I noticed red slime forming in the tank. God know what I was breathing in. Clean the tank weekly, it only take a minute to maybe slosh some cleaner or vinegar and water in it and rinse it out. If you removing it to inspect for the "pinkish stuff" you're already most of the way to cleaning the tank anyway.
Do the same with the hose. You've got humid air flowing through it every night. You could get something growing in there and never see it.

akirish wrote:Glad to see this thread. I started using my Respironics Dreammachine with a Nasal Pillow in July and have been using only Distilled water. I have been cleaning the nasal pillow daily with water, and the humidifier and hose twice a week with Dawn and hot water, air dry. I started seeing a red film in the bottom and along the nooks and crannies of the humidifier after a couple of days. So question #1 - should I empty the humifier every day? I have been topping off until cleaning day. #2 - if I should empty every day, how much should I fill it? I don't want to waste the distilled water but want enough to get me through every night. I called my medical supply company today and was told 'yeah, they are hard to keep clean, you should do it every day' and then felt like I got a sales pitch for SoClean and a 5 yr plan for insurance
Getting that red film after a day or two doesn't sound right to me. Maybe something started growing in it and just emptying it isn't getting rid of whatever it is. Try sloshing a vinegar/water mix around in it. The vinegar should kill the cooties.
