Maybe the machine is an unfinished capped rental, and the DME wants it back.

A letter from my DME came today. It contained a blank ResMed SD card and instructions to use that card. My SD card is to be sent to the DME.
I called ResMed. A nice guy at ResMed told me the DME should call them. Someone there will help them change the name on my used ResMed machine in the ResMed system. Both the guy at ResMed and I believe the doctor logged into the ResMed system, entered the serial number and saw my used machine was registered to the original machine owner.
I sent an email to my DME asking that they call me tomorrow. It SHOULD be fairly easy to get them to call ResMed and change that in their system. SHOULD

best guess, the person you bought the machine from went to the same doctor, and when the card was put into their system, it automatically pulled up the record with the serial number.
the *ONLY* identifying information on the card is the machine's serial number. names and such are only in the doctors software.
That would be my guess as well. I use ResScan, the official software. We have 3 machines in the household, and the software recognizes which serial number comes up when I insert a card. I have a name saved with each machine.

When I had to change machines and DMEs, I had to register the new machine to my name. You can do this on
http://myair.resmed.com. When you first sign up, you register using the serial number on your machine. When your machine changes, you click on My Equipment and then you can enter the new serial number to associate that specific machine with you and your account.
Then, if the doctor or DME pulls reports from the ResMed site, as they do for compliance reports, the reports will have your name on them.
