If you follow this logic, you're not in peril if you have high blood pressure or diabetes either. It's very rare (but I think also not impossible) to die directly of a blood pressure spike or a sugar spike!
You are not in immediate peril unless you die from something suddenly, that doesn't mean you shouldn't attempt to remove yourself from the danger.
Google Sugar Spike, D.H., get informed, think, then if you must speak. Low Sugar, is more dangerious and put you in immediate peril. (Coma) Jim
Too low blood sugar is from the treatment, not from the underlying disease!

I was telling someone I know that I had sleep apnia when they had an odd look on there face
and I asked her if anything was wrong. She then shared that her son had sleep apnia and one
night went to sleep without his mask and never woke up.

If a person's blood pressure goes up while you aren't breathing, I would think it could cause a stroke....
seems reasonable to me

In reality you stop breathing, the brain says that's not going to work, tells the body to release adrenalin to kick start (fight or flight) the heart goes into high gear, then you either get better or stroke. Jim

Question becomes how can you tell if it is your last apnea?

the only money the govt has to spend was first taken from you and me
it woudl be far better to get govt out of the middle and let everybody spend their own money
without the crats taking a big hunk for themselves before doling out a pittance of it to some worthless program that is supposed to do good
It's stupid to make comparisons between the current US situation and a country like the Philippines. The median salary in the Philippines is less than $12,000 a year. Without government supported health care, most would get no health care at all since the government negotiates to reduce the costs of health care. Everybody gets basic health care. Getting a specialist or specialty equipment is less likely. Oh, and BTW, doctors are paid crap there.

As I said originally, this is very rare. However, it can happen. Possibly it happened to Judge Scalia. He was found dead in bed, CPAP by his side but not powered on and the hose was not on his head. He had a number of things wrong with him and there was o autopsy, so we'll never know for sure.

Being a teacher dealing with young children that was wearing me out. It wasn't until 4 years ago that I got a new doctor and complained to her of the same issue. She immediately suggested a sleep study which showed I had sleep apnea. So my point is, I went a good 15 years before ever being diagnosed and still survived.
But all that time you were at increased risk of high blood pressure, diabetes, glaucoma, heart disease and stroke. You were also at greater risk of a motor vehicle, occupational, or household accident. Not to mention how much better you could have felt all those years!
Like I said, dying directly of Sleep Apnea is rare (non-existent according to the article). Dying of its complications is not!
I'm sure this could be the case. Though I never had high blood pressure, diabetes etc. Unfortunately if you keep complaining to your doctor and your doctor keeps telling you it is nothing to worry about, you tend to believe them. Fortunately my new doctor picked up on the fact that something wasn't right and ordered a sleep study. I am very grateful to her for that.

Actually, I was not considering type 1, as I don't think anybody would argue that this variety of diabetes is not immediately life-threatining.

Can you die [directly] of sleep apnea?
Yes. When people die in their sleep, they always stop breathing. Same as people who die when awake.
And that is why it is rare to see sleep apnea as the cause of death. It sounds like a bad joke to a medical person to say the cause of death was that the person stopped breathing. Unless we're talking murder here, then the natural reaction for a medical person is "Duh, of course the person stopped breathing, since that is what death is."
The word "directly" has no [direct] meaning in this context, basically.
The way most people "die from sleep apnea" in a so-called "direct" way is that they are so sleepy during their waking hours that they die of some sort of horrific accident, such as, to give one example, falling asleep behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. As a general rule, "sleep" is not going to be listed as the sole, direct cause of death, since falling asleep in one's bed rarely kills anyone. It's the context that matters. And there is no definitive way to ascertain from a body what its sleep state was in the minutes or seconds before death--especially with micro-sleep-type head-bobbing brain fog, unless a surviving passenger witnessed that behavior directly. It is a similar situation with sleep apnea. It doesn't make sense to pull it out of context in order to make a pronouncement about whether it directly or indirectly does or doesn't do anything on it's own at a given moment in time. It is a piece of a larger puzzle that must be considered when gathering statistics and listing official causes of things, sure. But that doesn't make it logical, overall, to ever pull the concept of SDB completely out of context in order to answer a trick question like the one that is the topic of this thread.
Don't get me wrong--it's a
great question. Good topic for a good thread like this one. It is just that some questions, even in court, can't be artificially limited to a yes-or-no answer.

I doubt it.
But our pudgy, fleshy, high water content bodies depend upon a puny imbalance between potassium and sodium ions on either side of a miniscule cell wall...our electrical capacity and system.....it's a miracle we don't drop dead when we get excited.
It's my belief, completely unqualified as it is, that lack of sleep can reek havoc on how our fragile electrical system controls vital muscles.
