If you will kindly post a link to whatever past thread(s?) contained something I said that has made you think I've ever indicated that people should not discuss what works/doesn't work for them or talk about problems they've had with their equipment, I'd really like to see it.

I didn't know whether to be furious, sad, or just sorry for you when I read your post, DSM. How can you possibly think that RG, of all people, has anything but benevolent intentions here? She is *always* the one helping newbies (and, heck, us "old-timers," too). She's always the one you can count on for sensible advice when you're in a jam.

And she does all this in her free time, with no compensation, and with inadequate thanks.

You know how sometimes you come across a post that is so completely off-the-wall you can't even believe it? You know how you sit there, staring at the screen in utter disbelief and wonder if you should say something? You know how usually you decide not to; figure you'll just ignore it and then keep checking the thread to see what happens next?

Well, this isn't one of those times. I don't know how anyone who read dsm's post to rested gal could possibly ignore it. He put it right here on this public message board for everyone to see. You all read it; ridiculous accusations against the most helpful and trusted member of this forum. I am absolutely appalled.

dsm, I don't know what possessed you. It's obvious you are frustrated. You do a lot of research. We believe you! You had a particular problem with a Respironics machine. We believe you! Many people in this thread have reported they did not have the same problem with the same machine. We believe them too!

No one has said they don't want to hear about the different problems people may have their machines, or accused anyone of reporting problems that don't actually exist. But it seems you will not be satisfied until everyone agrees that the problem you had was caused by a bug or a flaw in the machine. Sorry, that's not going to happen. Get over it.

RG, I do believe you have squashed conversations that have had material critical of Respironics.

This is a rational discussion that can be answered rationally we don't need emotional interjections unless that is where this discussion is now headed and once it gets emotional there is no longer any discussion!.

It seems to me that one very effective technique for derailing a discussion is to leap in with indignation. Don't equate the otherwise wonderful assistance RG has provided to so many of us on cpap. I know, you know, most know, how knowledgeable & helpful RG is but I really would like to clarify some perceptions I have in regard to this topic of squashing dicussion on Respironics issues. These have occured repeatedly over the past 18 months. Your intervention is doing nothing to help either RG or I reach a better understanding.

R.G. All I needed from you was an unemotional statement that you don't consider you have done this then I can answer. People reading can draw their own conclusions.

Please, I really would like answers to the 5 questions I asked. I didn't word them offensively in anyway. And your answers would help me understand where you are coming from.

#2 just saw neversleeps - boy was I waiting for that predictable interjection - suddenly a genuine concern I have raised although put openly & politely becomes an 'attack' ns you are a predictable gem

To outside observers, watch how an otherwise calm and sensible discussion can so quickly get hijacked and derailed & the core issues dissapear - possibly predictably !

And maybe, DSM, you did get a lemon and your machine did have a problem. That happens to all of us at some time or other doesn't it -- no matter what make or model? But does that make all of that particular name brand "flawed"? Everyone is entitled to his opinion -- and what a drab world it would be if we all had the same one..

Ellejose, It does help to read the discussions.

I bought 3 of them 1 near new - 1 brand new - 1 used. Then I bought the model before these ones to compare it too (but what's the use !).

I am sure we can see that this thread is dead already - any rational outcome is about to be buried in what will now be emotional reactions by people who can't or don't want to read (as in comprehend) & as I said above - I am left wondering if this was intentional or perhaps not - maybe it highlights the difference between some people who are strongly emotional in life (and there is nothing wrong with being so) & who have predominantly emotional reactions to things vs those of us trying to do investigations to seek out the facts & come to some rational conclusions conclusions (such as why a machine behaves a particular way).

What I see as observable situation here is that emotional drama will usually squash any logic.

Do you believe you have helped this discussion in any way ?

Is this a difference between males & females ? - Perhaps men come from Mars & Women from Venus, I am wondering

I want to say that I disagree with DSM's statements regarding what he believes are RG's efforts to stifle dissent regarding Respironics equioment. I have NEVER experienced any contributions that RG has made here as being other than well-intended, genuinely helpful, thoughtful, kind and always wise.

I do STRONGLLY agree with him that the MANY posts of outraged "How could you???!!!" contribute NOTHING to what would have otherwise been a vital discussion regarding the essential basis of our ability to trust the opinions that we offer and count on from one another. DSM had the courage to raise a consideration that we all owed ourselves the opportunity to consider, for better or for worse. He is to be only admired for caring enough about this community and its welfare to brave the predictable storm and raise the issues discussed here.

However, this community is sadly reprersentative of the world around it, and this discussion has deteriorated into hurtful squabbles with NO productive value, and I for one therefore, intend to abandon it from this point on.

RG is one of the most helpful, well informed, and unbiased people here.
When I first came here, she was the only one that truly made me feel welcome.
IMHO, she is one of the most valuable assets that this board has.

If I was the administrator of this forum, I would yank this thread, because it offers NOTHING of merit when it comes to attacks like that.

I, personally didn't see the need for this thread, The internet is what it is, a bunch of varied people trying to interact. We are a group with a common problem, trying to find correct answers, in a sea of misinformation.

If we are going to get good from this forum, we have to choose for ourselves, what is the best for us. In all things beware, the path to the truth is to follow the money, beware of vested interests, I don't think this forum has a problem with vested interests. For the most part it is comprized of some very helpful and wonderful people.

The results of this thread, do not make this a better place to be, and that's not what most of us want. We no doubt have people with agenda here. Everyone has a cause, whether it's for gain or profit, or just something they believe in, if we didn't we would be brain dead. There may be villains lurking here, but, I don't see one behind every tree.

I have strong beliefs on which machine is better, and which company has little morals. Companies aren't in the business to do what's right, profit is why they exist, and market share their quest, and I must add that some aren't good at making decisions for their own good.

I think it time to call off the witch hunt, and get on with making this the place to get help that it need to be. Jim

No offense to DSM or GoofyUt or anyone else that posted there opinions, which is what they are, opinions. But I agree with Jim on this one. I just want to get the best possible treatment for my Apnea, and I don't care what the name on the machine is, just as long it helps me. It can say "made by the Devil" for all I care. Again, just as long as it does what it's supposed to do.
