Hey, lets be constructive here. Some people are extremely light sleepers, and have problems if there is any unusual noise in the room. My wife is that way.
Find out more about the noise. Does it happen all the time? Try to recreate mouth breathing and/or mask leaks, or something being in the airflow at the exhaust, and see if any of those match the noise.
There may be ways to get this fixed, short of sleeping in sepaprate rooms.

I was being constructive. I didn't say, "Run him over with the truck."
Seriously, I don't buy the "light sleeper" thing. You can get used to sleeping through anything. I used to sleep right under the #2 catapult on the USS Eisenhower. I was lulled to sleep by F-14 Tomcat fighter planes going into full afterburner just a few feet over my head. You'd be surprised what you can get used to, if you make up you mind to do it. I think this guy is not even trying.
Like I said my wife is a very light sleeper, but she got used to my CPAP right away. I see no reason to cut this guy any slack.

Have you tried getting him the yellow expandable foam earplugs?

My wife is so cool that whenever I model a new mask she's like, "Oh, that's a good look for you, sort of like an alien jet pilot.. ", and can usually refrain from laughing. But then, when she asks "Honey does this make me look fat?", I know enough to say "Darling, nothing could ever make you look fat", so we've obviously worked out a system of benign lies.
Because she grew to prefer sleeping with ear plugs, even though I no longer snore audibly, she still uses them even when I'm not around. She also likes the part about me not dying prematurely and not being tired all the time. Maybe in that order.
