Janet
Kudos to Janet (Liam's wife) for reminding us that there is often more than one turn to a phrase. She reminds us that sometimes assumptions are true and sometimes they are false, that in the absence of more evidence it might be wise to reserve judgement and give someone the benefit of the doubt until there is reason not to. ....Concepts to think about and to remember. Thanks, Janet.

Hahaha. How many of you on reading this closed your eyes, tried to remember those Bee Gees singing voices, and wondered if you could have made the same mistake? .....

I swear I'm a closet masochist. I'm SO tempted to tweak people gently by saying that based on their voices, I always thought they were... something else.

But I won't. Although you KNOW it's killing me.

Is this turning into another "angry" thread? How did an apparently innocent comment about Helen Hunt's mistakenly perceived sexual orientation turn into a bash the Republicans rant? Liam, seems your wife does not share your abilty to couch your view points in humor. As long as we are all looking to be offended in this thread, I am offended by the straight Republican bashing. Let's be even handed in our condemnation of all prejeduce.

Well.... This PROVES that people can come across in ways that they didn't intend.

Janet doesn't like Dubya. I don't either. We both think his administration has done far more harm than good. BUT...

She would be the last person to bash republicans in general. She is one. Both of her brothers, her sister, her parents, and everyone else in her family is one. There are members of her family who would not vote for a democrat if the republicans nominated Koko the signing Gorilla.

So Janet's humorous comment was aimed at the current administration, only.

As for myself, I am more liberal than Janet is, in general, but I'm definitely centrist. My choice for President 4 years ago was John McCain. My last choice of the final four was Dubya.

Which is not to turn this into a political discussion, only to point out that her post, and her intent, did not bash conservatives or republicans, just one particular one, and she did it because she thought it was funny.

Liam, who will try very hard to make no more non-joke comments on topics such as politics, predjudice, religion, abortion, unless it involves aborting a religious, segregationist politician.

I knew this thread was taking off! Nice to hear Janet is a Republican, but I still don't understand the "straight as a Republican" comment. I think that comment is more as offensive than the original comment by hhunt that caused this thread to take on a life of it's own. As far as the current President Bush goes, he's a much better president than his father. As with all presidents, history will judge whether he is good or bad. We'll only know when we see what the future holds. Liam, in my book, centrist is a term for someone that can't make up their mind. Now that I think of it that may fit you well. (no offense intended)
As for John McCain, though I admire him as a true war hero, he has become nothing more than a political hack. This whole discussion makes me wonder when 2008 rolls around who will you vote for Hillary Clinton or Condi Rice?

Gilda, It's those subversive vague comments like yours that keep these threads going. If you are trying to get in the last word you're going to have to do better than that.

Wading,
To which comment do you refer? The fact that, in my opinion, some people have closed minds? Do we not all have closed minds to some extent? As for the last word, it never crossed my mind. Why would I care if I had the last word or not, I am not a small child bent on having "the last word", I was merely exercising my freedom of speech!

Gilda, who is not a child and does not require the "last word".

OK, look, folks. This discussion is really depressing me. We have a group of people who have a common foe (apnea), and that's supposed to bring us all together, and yet we'd rather find fault with each other, take offense where none is intended, drag more things into this.

I'm not going to discuss it any more, and for right now, I just need a chance to cool off.

So I'm taking at least a 24 hour hiatus from cpaptalk.com. My addiction is such that it may not stick, but for right now, I just... I don't want to see any more of this hatred. We're all people. Black & white, gay & straight, liberal & conservative, man & woman. Give each other a break, will you? Don't LOOK to be offended. Don't TRY to offend. And if either happens, FORGIVE, FORGET, MOVE ON.

I'll be back when I think maybe it's safe to come back, in so far as watching this is dropping me into a really serious depression.

Liam, closet for one. Paging Liam, closet for one.
