I found this discussion quite interesting because my sleep lab utilizes the Respironics Synchrony (or Synchrony ST - in my sleep deprived state I only remembered the Synchrony, looked it up online and found it was made by Respironics). After being told my sleep study results I was referred to myresmed.com.
I had specifically discussed w/my sleep pulmo after he told me my sleep study results and equipment needs that I preferred the RemStar M w/C-Flex AND data card capabilities and would want to be able to access my data myself. The script specified RemStar M series w/C-Flex w/no mention of giving me access to the data. The DME gave me the RemStar Plus w/o data card capabilities. I returned it 2 days later despite the DME telling me I couldn't w/o permission of my scripting doctor. Ha!
This sleep lab has alternating sleep pulmos. I couldn't reach "my" sleep pulmo (who has some history w/me and knows me fairly well as a patient). The sleep lab manager and I discussed WHY I returned the RemStar Plus and she suggested the Resmed S8 Elite would do what I needed and also provide access to the data as I wanted and suggested another DME also contracted w/my insurance. Since the Elite would provide what "I" wanted I was agreeable. However, the alternating pulmo (the manager's husband) wrote the new script. I was NOT given access to the data via the script. (Don't think I didn't see red about that!) The DME's RT was "less the upfront and forthcoming" w/info and answering my questions TRUTHFULLY. Since "my" sleep pulmo isn't available to me until mid-November I prowled around, found how to access the data myself and thus am satisfied w/the Elite.
I'm just finding it interesting that this lab uses Respironics equipment yet are recommending the Resmed products. Interestingly, IF I can believe the DME's RT my Elite is the FIRST Elite this DME has had experience with. I didn't think to ask which brand PAP machine they usually provided given my irritation w/their RT.
I get so *%#^%&* aggravated w/the medical profession's "dark ages" mentality and conspirational attempts to keep the patient in awe and uninformed and in the dark! They don't keep me in awe but they sure don't earn much respect from me either - except for the rare, refreshing individual who is right up front w/their patient and grants the patient easy access to their medical information.
