How about instituting some kind of capcha/reCapcha type requirement for posting? That might be a step in the right direction. Obviously if it doesn't stop the board is done for.

No, I don't think ransomware. I think a spammer with some really good equipment bypassing the security hurdles.
We need to be able to block immediately at the source to slow him down and Carolyn is the only one with those powers and she isn't available right now.

I have sent her an alert as to what is happening. I can only hope she checks in before Tuesday.

He's figured out how to get past the number of posts per time frame restriction by creating multiple IDs and just keeps reposting shit as soon as the forum security allows.
He keeps getting new IDs...which means new email addresses and new captcha hurdles...which apparently aren't much of a hurdle at this point.

That requirement is already in place for guest posting as well as getting a new screen ID...he's figure out someway to quickly get past it.

New member requests...require Captcha thingy to verify you are human...once he gets past that he has clear sailing.

If we did a captcha thing for every post...then you and I would also have to do it...kinda PITA.

This chinese dude has been here before but never this bad. He's figured out how to beat the system...so now we have to come up with a new system.
If we block his IP address...it's probably a proxy and it's easy to get new proxy IP addresses anyway.

Nope, sorry but I just created a new account and all I had to do to prove I was not a robot was select the correct radio button. No captcha or recaptcha there and that is a problem. Seems to be the primary problem today and it needs to updated so that more than a simple checkbox/radio button is required. There needs to be recaptcha there or at some kind of additional factor authentication like verification code via email or something. Until there is we appear to be toast.

If that is true it makes me think it is a forum member who knows and has some kind of vengeance. Maybe cuz they lost their "Spam Delete Button"? And wants to prove a point?

The algorithm for one forum I belong to won't let new members post for 15 minutes and until they have read a certain number of forum posts. Then it severely limits the number of posts for the first 48 hours. Afaik this has prevented spambots.
