also, did you die of suffocation?
I was struggling but could suck air through the machine.
I take it that means you didn't die of suffocation...

next time, open that hole under your nose, people can breath through there, no danger.
People who use nasal masks train themselves not to open their mouths, so they sub-consciously try to continue breathing through their nose, but of course you'd already know that, because you know everything.

incorrect.
autonomic nervous functions trump your alleged "training". if the body starts building up too much co2 because it's not getting fresh air, it'll cause you to gasp for air, through your mouth, which, if you'd stop to think about it, instead of just making sarcastic stupid comments, is why there are no anti-asphyxiation valves on nasal masks or pillow masks, only on masks that cover the mouth too.

What does this mean? I think Palerider was absolutely correct. Are you just trying to look intelligent?

You told the OP to use his mouth, using biting sarcasm, yet you now claim that opening his mouth would be an involuntary reaction before he even woke up? And you think I'm the one making stupid, sarcastic comments? Clearly you've been allowed to think that you're quite clever for so long that you've started beieving it.

The OP asked a simple question, a simple explanation (such as the one that you just gave, but without the cleverness) would have been quite sufficient as an answer, yet you simply have to show everyone what a big clever fellow you are by belittling him. You think you're a useful addition to this forum, but you're not. You're just another little troll on the internet hiding behind his keyboard and loud bravado. And to all your acolytes who'll no doubt be song soon to tell me I'm derailing the thread, any usefulness in this thread vanished the moment the little troll started lambasting the OP instead of providing an actual answer.

Well done, your mommy must be so proud of you.

IMO people who behave this way has a low self-esteem and for some reason think that insulting others makes them big - obviously they get some gratification from it or they would not behave this way.

Obviously sleep deprived which makes one easily angered and prob suffering from undiagnosed depression definitely untreated.

I envision him being shorter than avg height, smart but not educated. Prob with small hands and a smaller brain. Prob had his teeth knocked out a few times so he feels safe behind a keyboard. The totally amazing thing (to me) is that the people here tolerate him - for reasons unknown. This person is certainly not an asset by any stretch.

I'm quite sure that a power failure (or a machine failure) would wake me up within seconds. However, that's me, others might react differently. Also, since my pressure is on the higher end (13.5 min), the fact that a failure would result in a more dramatic dropping of pressure amy be part of the reason.

since you seem unable to grasp the concept, let me lay it out for you.

the OP said he was having trouble breathing through the mask, *AFTER WAKING UP* (since, of course, any rational being would realize he wouldn't know how things were while he was asleep).

my comment about breathing through his mouth was directed at that, after he was awake.

A couple of years ago, our power went out at least twice in one month. Both times in the middle of the night. I can tell you that I for one woke up IMMEDIATELY and ABRUPTLY each time.
It irritated me so much that not only put my CPAP on a UPS, I modified my UPS for extended run time. I removed the measly 7 amp hour battery and conected two U1 wheelchair batteries in parallel for 70 amp hours combined. The UPS can run my CPAP, alarm clocks and occasionally table side lamp for days. And if the power is still out in the morning, I have in the past plugged in my coffee grinder. Fresh ground coffee, a kettle on a gas stove and an aero press and I'm good!

Plus I put the batteries in a battery box that can disconnect from the UPS and it has a nice 12V plug on it. Worked great while camping with a DC power connection to my CPAP. It can run my CPAP with humidifier for at least 3 days on DC power.

You can't blame being Sleep Deprived for bad manners, that's a failure of upbringing, it starts long before Sleep Apnea. Jim

Sorry, I couldn't resist the editorial changes. Those who hide behind "guest" and multiple user names don't have the cred to take the high road in these matters. That said, I agree with the devil in this case.
