30 years with Asthma. Was very worried like you to start using CPAP.

I feel great! Heated hose, Hose cozey, humidifier (purified water ONLY!) on 2. Sleep like a baby. Side effects (Nasal mask) reduction in sinus issues, reduction in allergies (filtered air) and wake up feeling refreshed and better energy. I have reduced lung capacity and I swear the pressurized air helps keep my lungs clear.

Side note on the acid reflux. I see a REDUCTION in night time reflux when using my CPAP. Anyone else notice this? I THINK it is because I sleep and not struggle to breath?

Oh, yeah, I was going to say that a hose cozy has been really helpful. It is easy to make one out of polar fleece, just cut a long rectangle and sew up one side to make a tube, slip it on over the hose. I sewed some velcro at the top, it wraps around to hold it in place. I have a long one for the main hose and a short one for the small hose that is part of the mask.

I have asthma as well, and I have found that hot/humid air and cold/dry air are triggers for my asthma. So, with the cpap, I use a cooler air temp and as much humidification as I can.I am a mouth breather, so I need a lot of humidity.

That said, in the winter, I tend to turn up the temp a few degrees. And if I visit my sister or spend the weekend in a friend's RV in the winter; I will raise the temp to avoid rainout.

A lot of this depends on whether you are a mouth or nasal breather, where you live, and what you prefer for comfort.
